We've just moved to Singapore for hubby's work and I will also want to work.

My question is: Are there specific expat recruitment agencies or should i just aproach the local ones?
Has anyone had any first hand experience in looking for a job as an expat wife? How easy is it?

I don't have children so full time positions are also an option.

As you are here already nobody will give you an expat package. Finding a job depends on the skills you have. Unless you speak Mandarin and/or Malay you start off at a disadvantage in any but specialised fields. You will probably do better applying to companies direct.

I'm not looking for an expat package. I'm only looking to work to keep myself from going brain dead! I know that to meet my previous package would be nearly impossible.

If you are not looking for an expat post why would you ask about expat recruitment agencies ?

It will all depend on what your profession is, and whether a local employer would want to take you on when there is likely to be a supply of local/ASEAN people who would fit in with the culture and language.  Not impossible but certainly wont be easy.  Get the ST on a Saturday and look through to see what you could apply for and see what responses you get.

It is not easy to get a job but it is possible.
If you are on a DP then all you need is a letter of consent which makes it easier for an employer as they don't need to get you a work permit.
Depending on your profession I would not bother with any of the recruitment firms local or otherwise - they are on the whole useless.
Best way to get a job is through direct approach to companies you are interested in.  Make use of your national networks.  For example if you are British join the Chamber of Commerce and get to meet executives in the various companies.
There is also a great working women's network called PrimeTime.  They often advertise positions on their website and it is great for getting to know who is hiring.
It took me a year and I had almost given up hope but I now have the best job I have ever had and my career has gone stellar. So persevere and the rewards can be great.

if you are coming to singapore with your husbands who I assume will by on an employment pass all you will need is a "letter of consent" from the ministry of manpower (aka - MOM). your new employer will apply for you and it usually takes only two weeks to process. Several of my friends have applied and none has had any issue getting it.

If you are looking for a nursing job and are interested in a hospital position, both private and restructured (public) hospital are always looking for nursing staff. Whatever you choose to do, you will have a huge choice, so interview at several places before you decide.

Good Luck

Good luck
