Hi guys, I am negotiating my salary package with my new employer and would like to hear something from this forum. Some relevant info as below:

- AVP ED product controller
- European i-bank
- 3 year prior experience
- CPA

What is a reasonable salary range I can expect? How many days annual leave? And how many months bonus in good years?

With 3 years exp you will be at the lower end of avp. Salary about 90k, bonus likely no more than 3 or 4 months.

Hi, for someone with CPA and 3 year experience in PC, that certainly doesn't sound attractive. If this is the offer, I will stay put. The package has to be at lease 120k for any serious consideration. Hong Kong / Tokyo can probably offering a bit more??

What about spelling correctly for a start. When you think that you are worth, why don't you stay in Europe anyway...

First learn proper spelling and grammar, people do judge you based on how you present yourself.

Second, don't tell US what you expect, tell your prospective employer!

AVP levels tend to cap out at 120-140K depending on the i/bank and the product area, so in ED you should be able to get around there. Product Controllers are always in demand if you are decent. If the offer isnt what you want I am sure there will be others. However remember you dont want to burn any bridges with anyone here... Singapore is a small place.

That's a good piece of suggestion, thanks. I don't want to upset anybody with my spelling or grammar. Haha!

The numbers you quote are true.  However, with only 3 years exp why would they be getting a top AVP salary?  With only 3 years you are lucky to get an AVP offer at all, would be lower end of AVP scale not upper.

have to agree with PC dir...3 years is lucky to get the AVP at all.... i am aware however that a lot of the larger European banks are promoting early as a retention tool to candidates..AVP range approx 80 - 130k so you would be on the lower end of that...

The numbers being bandied about here for someone with 3 yrs experience are nowhere near being real based on my experience in this industry, and that is assuming these were still good times.

All of these banks are now in the process of retrenching.  If an offer is out there, rest assured it will not be anywhere near 90K for a such a junior level person (3 yrs experience).

Sounds like CS. Im was getting 70k and have 9 years experience, I quit coz the bank I was working for (not CS) was quite dishonest about cost of living in SG and career prospects.

I think 90k would be a very good salary though if only 3 yrs experience. Ive tripled my salary back being back home. I was offered many positions but pointed out that if SG want quality people they need up their salaries! Thats why some of the banks have regulatory problems now because their managers have no idea about !

You are indeed very lucky to be at AVP level afer just 3 years. I have only just made AVP and I have been working for 17 years. This was my second job after finishing my degree in business studies. Someone like me with my qualifications and experience could expect to start pulling in the big bucks (70k or more) but you can't really expect that yet. Wait a few more years, be patient, it wil come with time.

17 years to make avp?Huh  You should have given up and done something else years ago.  70k is not big bucks either I'm afraid, most people on this board pay more rent than that (unless you are talking 70k a month which is what really senior PC people can earn although that clearly includes bonus).

As before the OP has got an AVP pretty quickly but then again Singapore is short of experienced people so I guess that helps.  Why should they wait if they have been offered it now anyway?

No need to be so mean even if you don't agree with the previous poster.

I work in an European investment bank in Singapore and most people need between 8-10 years of working experience to become AVP. With 3 years, you're at the most an associate. Strong technical knowledge may be useful but to be effective as you move up the ranks, you also need industry knowledge and experience, together with team and people management skills. All these are things that come with time, not after 3 years.

Young people these days.... they think they can demand big bucks with just a few years of experience  Roll Eyes

To add on, CPA and 3 years of experience are hardly a big deal. Maybe people with 10-15 years of experience are in short supply in Singapore. But 3 years? They're a dime a dozen, with a lot less ego issues than OP.
