I've learnt before now that foreign students are allowed to work part-time (max 16 hrs per week), but someone who's been in SG for about three years, just told me something else. He says it is stamped on the student pass that holders are not allowed to work. Please can anyone give the true and correct picture?

Do you have a student pass?  Is anything stamped on it?  Have you phoned the MOM.

Not trying to be unhelpful but the first two presumably you can figure out in 5 seconds, you are or not and if so it has been or it hasn't.

After that most here are working expats not students, MOM is a better bet.

Lastly, cash in hand, as elsewhere, is live and well.

it depends on the employer  - some seemed to be fine knowing you hold a student pass, as long as you worked for 16hours (this was at a local coffee shop).  but i know some employers dont like hiring foriegn students

my understanding of it is if it is a student pass then the general rule is no you cannot work, however if you are at a certain college or school which has an agreement with the MOM then you are able to work part-time outside school hours.
It is on the MOM site and it lists the schools too

Just check out this link man. It is clearly stated as to whom are allowed to work with student pass during the study term and during vacation.
