Amazing how the chinese are using every trick in the book to deceive the world.  Fake fireworks, fake supporters, now fake singers....

At least it adds a bit of interest.
Watching perspiring people plodding up to a polluted podium puts perspicatious punters off.

The whole thing was choreographed by Zhang Yimou, acclaimed "art film" director; so what can one expect, especially with the Politburo's tacitness ?

On the whole they are pretty good at faking it  Embarrassed. This Admin Board's strict censorship policy restrains me from elaborating any further. Sad

My dear lou cypher - you seemed to be able to sniff out all the fakes about the chinese, but yet unable to sniff out this one. So, who's the bigger fake now?

The blurb below was taken from soc.culture.singapore by Wakalukong.

* * *

Seems that the Sydney Symphony faked its entire performance at the
opening of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.  The whole orchestra pretended to
play their instruments, miming to pre-recorded music.  Worse, some of
the pre-recorded pieces were not even played by them, but by the
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.  And this fakery comes out only after 8
years.

So where's the self-righteous moralistic outrage?  According to the
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra managing director Trevor Green, "The
miming side of it is perfectly normal."  He went on to say, "We should
really be celebrating the fact that a country such as Australia has
six international orchestra."

Don't expect the Western media and Fankie Lee to show any self-
righteous moralistic outrage.  Hey, this time it's perfectly normal
and we should do some celebration instead.
