Has anybody been in a situation where a medicine they have been prescribed elsewhere (UK in this case) cannot be found here? Happy to use a generic but not an alternative after one bad experience.

For a while I was calling our doctor, getting repeat prescriptions & getting someone to pick them up & post them to us, but the doc won't do that any more.

Anyone been in a similar situation & worked a way round it?

No, sorry....but could you ask your doctor here to specially order it for you if you offer to cover the cost of shipping?  If you went to a GP here with UK background/connections might be possible.

Unless it's banned here.

Maybe if you told us the medication we can help you better?

An alternative is to trek over to M'sia to buy the medication if they have it there. My dad does that a few times a year. There are many pharmacies catering to Singaporeans. You don't even need a prescription!

Regarding Ibuprofen - according to our doctor, you just have to ask the pharmacist for it.   It is not stocked on the shelves.

Ibuprofen is not OTC, it is a pharmacist-only drug, so you'll have to ask at the pharmacy counter for it. No prescription required, but only pharmacists can dispense.

Correct.  And ask for Nuerofen.  And not all pharmacies have a pharmacist on hand so you need to go to one that has!

Pharmacists will know that Neurofen is the brand name for generic ibuprofen. No need to worry if you forget the name.

Its generic name is Tamsulosin hydrochloride; various pharmaceutical companies then market it under different names eg Diffundox, Flomax. It's an alpha blocker-relaxes muscles surrounding bladder to allow easier flow (elder gentlemen's problems)

I wonder where OM sources his? Wink

It is not in Malaysia-the search through doctors has been made.

Next step- visit a urologist & revise the situation. Any ideas there then?
