i love buying things, i admit it. my husband keeps rolling his eyes everytime i come home with something new. i am not addicted or anything like that, i just like to go shopping. we have a comfortable lifestyle, and i am not emptying our bank account, but i guess i spend more than i should. so we've come up with the idea that my husband transfers a certain amount each month to my account, with which i can do what i want. this way, i won't go over that amount, and he's happy too because he knows i won't spend more than we agreed. now my question: what would a reasonable amount be??? i want to make sure the sum i suggest is not too low, for obvious reasons Smiley, but i want to stay realistic too and not go crazy. i've only been here for a couple of months (we're expats and move around quite a bit), so i don't have a clear idea of costs. the amount should include food, clothes, extras, but not bills or rent or school fees or other big ticket items. any help, any ideas?? thanks!

Are you sure you're not a local woman? You're going to fit in here just nicely.

I do not think this is a wind up at all nor the OP a blonde.  I know a lot of woman who get an "allowance", for lack of a better word from their husband and both parties are happy and no longer fight every month when the credit card bill comes in.  BTW as an expat who moves around a lot I also get get confused as to what is the normal price for things (I thought it was just me who felt this way). An allowance is not for me but then I am the budgeter in the family not my husband.  OP, you and your husband need to come up with an amount that is reasonable for both you and your families monthly income, I do not think anybody can really answer this question for you.  What one women might consider a necessity another might find an extravagence so it is hard for anyone to give you a fixed amount without knowing what you like to do and what you like to spend money on and what your husband is happy with.
