My wife and I are coming to Singapore for a house hunt in early November.  Can anyone suggest how long it has taken them to find an appropriate home.  We are looking for a detached house and have set aside 4 days.  Realistic???

I have no experience in house hunting in Singapore, but just like you I will probably have some at the end of this year since I am moving to Singapore next year.

From my own experence in flat hunting from my home country, four days is really a short period of time. I do think that it is possible though. The longer you have the more choice you will have.

My advice would be to prepare your agent very very well about what you are looking for and what facilities you require before coming to SIngapore. DOn“t take anything for granted. Describe in detail what is most important to you and what you can not stand in a house (like pink carpets)

Good luck!

I am moving to Singapore at the end of the month and I recently spent one week there house hunting.  First day I called the agent with my requirements.  I should point out I knew the locations and the type/size of house I was looking for in advance.  That afternoon  and for the following 4 days we looked at approx 20 houses.  The house I chose was the final house I actually saw.

Your time scale is realistic just ensure your agent knows your requirements in advance.  I was only viewing property from 3:30 - 6pm each day.

Good Luck

Do your homework before you come and tell agent exactly what you are looking for.  Do you want to be close to work/nightlife/schools? 3,4,or 5 bedrooms?  You can do it, but you may want to look at the country, find out where your job will be, decide what is important to you and then hit the ground running.  Most places here don't have carpet, but they do have dry/wet kitchens, lots of stairs, and very little garden/grass area.  Areas known here to consider via a may are: Orchard, West Coast, East Coast, Woodlands, Bukit Temah, and Holland Village.  This is not all, but it will give you some names to drop to the agent.  If your used to city life then go for Orchard Area.  If you like the feel of less people, more open space then go for the East Coast, (nice park for riding bikes, rollerblading)  Woodlands is where the American School is (that is all) and Holland Village is about in between Orchard and Bukit Temah.  West Coast is by the National University Hospital/National University and Jurong.   House life can be quite lonely if you don't have a club membership to anywhere.  Just something to think about.  Good Luck and happy hunting!
