Recently, there have been interesting threads appear on "Living in Singapore" and they have attracted lively interest only to be moved to "Investments & Property" or "Talking Points" where they can only be accessed by Members and as such, after one or two predictable comments have died.
Today the economic and political situation in US and elsewhere most certainly will impact on Living in Singapore.
So, I don't understand any reason why all *** should not be accessible to all posters who want to comment rather than keeping them all, but one or two, available to Members who do not bother?

I disagree and am of the opinion that the more posters are registered the better.  Can't stand hit and run artists

Have the days of lively debate gone forever?

Some posts generate thousands of entries however when they are shifted to members only, however topical, they die. Check Talking Point, Investment & Property if you do not believe me.

Personally I think these sites must also have a business component and attract commercial activities such as advertising and the degree of success depends on how often the site is visited.

Open sites attract many hits. Closed sites, restricted to members, do not. Its a fact of life.

Many relevant and valid points are made by casual visitors who become frequent visitors. There are also members also who post under other pseudonyms.
This is not about ego. Anonymity is preferred.
The quality of the post is more important than the poster?

I agree in keeping and allowing posters to remain anonymous. yet membership needs to have its privledges - something more than nust the number of posts displayed.

I agree with Vulcanl on the hit-and-run guerrilla warriors. It is a rather asymmetrical warfare, like waging a conventional war with terrorists.

I think a good compromise would be for posters to register with a single nick and stick with it. Registration does not necessarily mean the loss of anonymity. You can register as "Jasper the Ghost" and still remain ghostly. The problems with hit and run artistes like "boo hoo" is that their entire conversation consists of those two words.

It hasn't so far. 

Those reading this b o a r d today will mostly be members and the absence of lively discussion from many contributors rather than the few has killed the main Living in Singapore b o a r d.

Personally I think members' contributions are predictable and many post under several names which defeats the purpose of membership. Yes me too. 

Casual readers, first time readers may feel the urge to post on a topic they have personal experience about but can not so do not return. I appreciate some members may believe they have all the answers but its all about lively discussion not ego.
