Hi All

Has anyone received an offer from Barcap Tech divison for their
operations in singapore lately. How much should one expect for exp range of 5.5 years. As per some of the earlier post they are ramping up... But will this be a safe option considering the turmoil in the industry. Also what position are they offering for with this experience.

Appreciate any input in this regard.

Thanks

Hi,

Did you receive an offer in the last week or very recently. I heard they have put the offers on hold. Have u been offered the position or you just want to be prepared before they dish out. Please mention the technology stack that you would be working. Salary range is quite and Barcap is paying better than others.

Thanks

Well I guess in your case you should call or email them asking for the delay. As far as I know from some sources, they are going to hold on to these offers for sometime. Reason ? They needed people for US operations (formerly Lehmann) and since Lehmann's backoffice in India was acquired by Nomura, they didnt have many people to look after the US operations. However, they have now entered into some kind of an agreement with Nomura to handle the US operations. Thus they are going slow on the recruitment. If you have any other info, please let us know.

One more thing, for the betterment of others can you tell us where were you interviewed. Also, please take us through the final rounds of interview as to what was asked. I heard they are not asking many technical stuff but are more keen on the individual as whole.

Thanks.

I checked with consultant who fwded my resume there. He is also not sure by what time offer should come.
Interview wise, i had 3 rounds. 2 tech + 1 general HR types. 1st round was basic interview on perl/ db. Stright fwd questions. 2nd tech round was VC and they went deep in database/perl.
3rd round is just a formal "get to know" round.

It has been over a month now but i havn't heard anything from them. Lets hope they start giving offers soon.

I'm one of the guys waiting for the offer for about 2 months already. So far no news from them.

Why not they just inform us whether they are going to proceed or going to stop?

whatAbadPR , i tried getting some info on offers but looks like it might take some more time before they reveal if they are going to give offers or not.
You can try to check with your consultant if knows anything. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I think you will find they are doing both for 2 very logical reasons.

1. Barcap, like all banks are reducing staff numbers as a result to curtail operating costs given the current economic climate. This will likely be heavily in North America and Europe (ala Canary Wharf land)

2. As they acquired the North American business of Lehman's, which I believe was a big Equities house, they will need to recruit resource to manage the business rollout and integration, as Barcap was never big in Cash Equities.

When you take however many people from Lehmans and join 2 oragnisations, there is always a degree of duplication in front/middle/back in Ops/IT etc.

The hiring in Singapore is likely to be for the low end stuff as I hear they have a big support and development shop here.
