Kubey,

I couldn't agree with you more, especially the part about the shift from West to East (SGD Bear, where are you?  Look - someone else thinks the way I do!)

Singapore is an oasis in the midst of third World conditions.  This little rock will emerge from this in very good shape, and probably be the first Asian economy to emerge from recession.

V:  How do you explain away the Asian economies that are not in recession, and may not go into recession at all?  Bit of a weak claim if others never hit Singapore's economic depths.

Kubes,

Do you realize that by mere virtue of asking me this question you are tacitly acknowledging that Asia is ALREADY better off than the West and the Asian decoupling thesis is thereby given more credence?

Your point is well taken.  I believe that as of right now Malaysia and Indonesia are technically NOT in recession and Singapore is.

So I stand corrected.

Unlike some I could mention, some of us will hang on, fight and get through this and not be deserters.

Some of the balance of power should shift to Asia in the future.
The US and UK are living on too much debt and I don't see how that's sustainable in the long run. It seems like their consumers, corporations and government are all in some trouble and the game has got to be over at some point.
