WTF I am completely stewing and absolutely cannot comprend the situation. Im torn between committing hare-kiri on the banks doorsteps or sending an email to every single journalist in the world.
My bank, who is my employer, is refusing to pay me, but still expects me to make my loan repayments !
HR refuse to meet me and refuse to answer my emails. In the meantime the bank's credit department is happily making threats to me requesting that i make the instalment payments on my loan or else!
You are probably thinking that I must owe the bank (or someone) money elsewhere and they are using my salary to refund this money.....but no it's not the case.
What the hell am I supposed to do ?

Unfortunately I do not have any further information because HR are not giving me any. Ive escalated to compliance and Head of HR but still no news.....
Its as simple as that......HR have not paid me. The next step is to quit.

The next step is not to quit, it's to either talk to MOM or get a lawyer. No one here can really give much more advice because we don't have enough information.

Thank you, yes I will start with MOM. The lawyer will be the next step but that of course is an expense I would rather avoid.
All I can do is send a list of all the correspondance I have sent, and what is owed to me. Unfortunately I don't have much from the bank except for the typical head in sand response, whenever there is a problem in Singapore, "I would like to understand your concerns". Apparently my letter stating that I haven't been paid, am due X amount, and that I would like it as soon as possible is beyond their comprehension.
The situation is totally ludicrous and that's why I am so frustrated. I have absolutely no reason or explanation.

I hope I am wrong, for clear understanding: You are working for a bank and took a loan at the same bank. Due to the current economic situation the bank wants to get rid off you. In order to be sure they will still get their money, they simply let you work for free! Maybe I am wrong, but this sounds like the only logical explanation. Sure MOM can help? Good luck anyway!

If you earn more than some threshold value (something like 1600 or 2500 pm), the MOM is not likely to be interested in the case. The lawyer may be a better place if there is no internal dispute resolution mechanism in your organization. I would hazard a guess that going with a lawyer would spoil whatever remains of your relationship with your employer.
I am intensly curious - what does your manager have to say about the behavior of HR?

you talking about salary, as in monthly salary? is that based on sales? i assume you took a housing loan at a preferred rate from the bank?
interesting to know which bank... the last time a bank failed to pay its staff on time was i think lehman in its final weeks.

The loan is under $10k so not enormous. Monthly salary less than that....... Im small fry so don't command much attention. Manager has buried her head in the sand and says to speak to HR. I think HR is very touchy and seem to command alot of attention despite being so hopeless. Id love to say what bank it is but had better refrain ......
BTW I have never understood how to get locals to accept responsibility for anything.....any tips ?

Manager has buried her head in the sand and says to speak to HR. After this is settled, work on getting a new manager. I wouldn't do this to somebody that worked for me.

could you clarify if the amount the bank is withholding is your actualy monthly salary, or is a disputed commission or bonus payment?
also, while you are right in not naming your bank here, would you be able to reveal a rough geographical indication (eg bank is local, asian, european, american...)

The bank is not American or Asian and not from mainland Europe . I dont get any commission or bonus so it's just my regular monthly salary. I think HR are totally scared of me now and have decided to pretend nothing is wrong rather than admit a mistake. How bl^^dy stupid. Anyway Ive wasted enough forum space on this. There might be an article in the news in the few months if things don't get sorted.
