gonna try making preserves with tropical fruits. does anyone know where i can get some jam bottles? or have any tips on making jams? what fruits should i use?

Jars for preserves are available at Lau Choy Seng (just down the road from Sia Huat) in Temple Street.

Sorry I can't help on what fruits to use - I'm not a tropical fruits fan and I think the price and quality of other fruits here doesn't make them very good candidates. My only possible exceptions would be:
  • chilli jam or candied chillies
  • lime curd
  • ginger syrup/ crystallised ginger

Only the first has reasonable life, the others don't keep very long.

IKEA has some jars (well, they usually do, anyway) that are suitable for preserves, etc.
