Hi to all,

We are planning to come to SINGAPORE for job from INDIA. I have some questions regarding that...

1. Do I have to wear formals only in job?
2. what are the clothing style normally there for girls? like jeans, skirts ?  what the girls normally wear over there?
3. What is the deposits for renting a flat?
4. Will camera and laptop be cheaper over there than india?

Thanks in advance.

I can't speak to work clothes but coming from India, you'll probably be quite surprised at the other styles..  The local fashions show lots of skin.  Jeans, shorts, skirts etc are fine here.  My sister in law wore shorts here(she's Indian), she would never wear them in India.  My brother in law was looking for electronics and found much more selection and when he compared the costs of his camera to the same model here, it was cheaper here. In fact he was kicking himself when he saw what he could have done here.  Lap tops are probably cheaper over there though.  Rental deposits- 1 month for each year of the lease.  You can try to negotiate that since the rental market is soft now.  All the best to you.

For work, if you wear dark trousers/skirt with a long sleeved top, you can't go too far wrong.

As Scooby said, you'll see people wearing a lot less than that once you arrive.

Good luck.

Ties are sometimes optional. Client facing managers/staff are expected to wear nicer clothing. Back office can dress down a bit.

Some of the buildings have the aircon system set to freezing. It is common for women to have a light jacket or sweater in the office to cover up a bit.
