I am living in the US and have a tentative offer for a job paying 150K USD per year (227,288 SGD) plus an apartment with utilities and allowance of $800 USD (1,212 SGD) per month for transportation 1- Is this enough money to live a comfortable life style and afford a small car for a family of 3 (myself, my wife and young daughter?) 2-How much does it cost for a 3 bedroom apartment in a nice area? Thanks

Just wondering if your daughter is schooling? USD 150K + some additional payments is good enough! Chin up and march!

Even the most basic level of research would clue you in on the fact that 150k USD will put you miles in front of the vast majority of people... Some people...

I think you'll be just fine on that salary. Some people will tell you that you need more and plenty of people on here will tell you you could easily live on less. Its all a matter of how you choose to live.
Rents have dropped here recently so (being prepared to negotiate!) you will do just fine.
Cars can be expensive here and quite a lot of people don't have them. We use the subway and taxis, which are both very reasonably priced and convenient.
There is a thread in the family forum on here about how much people spend on groceries and if you do some searches you will also find info about cost of other bills here. Schooling will be one big expense, which you may need to factor in.

hi, many ppl i know are only earning 50k with 2 or 3kids still can afford a car. At this offer, it is already good enough for you to be above average family, considered as rich & affordable range. Sure it is a good offer, take it & you won't regret. good luck & welcome to Singapore!

This is a very good salary. However, it all depends on what you are used to and how you spend your money. Accomodation can range from $2 k to $30k for a 3 bed place - all depends on area and your preference - most of Singapore is a "good area". The amount of housing allowance should be stated in your contract. Utilities can range from $150 to $1k - it all depends on your preference for aircon, tumble dryer and dishwasher. £1.2 k allowance for a car is ok - it will allow you to lease a basic no frills family car, like a small Nissan/ Toyota. As a PP said check out whether your company will pay school fees and school bus fees as these are very expensive and can eat into your budget.

Anyone else tired of the "Is XXX amount of dollars enough?" posts? Mate, you're pulling 20K SGD a month plus an apartment paid for. Are you legitimately worried that it won't be enough? If you have a legitimate question about a specific expense we can answer it for you. Otherwise fess up, what was the purpose of your post?

Is your employer going to pick up your US tax (assuming your a US citizen) if not then your tax exposure is around 35% which would dent your living standard here. You'd find yourself worse off without tax equalisation.

Septic,
How do you reckon? I calculate OP's tax liability closer to 15%
Base Salary USD 150K Foreign Earned income exclusion USD 87,500
150,000-87500= USD 62,500
62,500 * 35% = USD 21,875
21,875/150,000 = 14.58%

i'm on a similar deal (base salary, no housing/car allowance) and support a family of 5, stay in a landed prop, have a maid, drive a car and even pay intl. schoolfees for 2 out of my pocket. you will be fine, best time to move to Sing now, rents have tanked and i managed to get a midterm reduction on my rent (20%).
bye Snowbowl

Read archives. Anyway, what sort of lifestyle do you expect. You won't be worried about grocery bills but you won't be jetting to 5* resorts at the weekends either. Overall its ok but not luxury living.
