I just got a mail from my savings investment policy company - they tell me one of the funds is worth a fraction of what their statements said for more than a year - not because of the financial meltdown, but because someone transcribed some numbers wrongly in Oct 2007. Does anyone know the form here - is there any time limit on screw ups like this.

I noticed a rogue charge on my credit card a while back, when I checked my statements I'd been charged every month for the previous 12 months. I only got back 2 months' charges, which I thought fair enough - I should have kept a better eye on my account!

If at any time an investment company could say 'sorry sir we transcribed some numbers incorrectly 20 years ago, you policy is worth 10% of what we've been telling you all this time'  then the financial system wouldn't work I'd say. Smiley
