Went to tailor recently to have a blouse made for a formal event (I already had a long silk skirt)--so all I needed was a blouse.

This particular Tailor is in a very reputable facility--high end hotel "M"  shoping arcade 3rd floor and came recommended by a friend who had a good experience haing dresses made for her children. The company's website actually has the nerve to boast about their excellant customer service.

I called ahead and set up an appointment to go in--when I arrived on time--the seamstress was not in and I was told she would not be in since she didn't work on Saturdays-- so, I'd have to come back on Monday. Couldn't understand why they set up an appointment for me to come in is she wasn't going to be in?

Showed shop owner a picture of EXACTLY what I wanted and showed him the fabric I wanted to use--he quoted me a price of 70-100. which I was fine with.

Went back, met with seamstress on Monday and she got measurements and so forth--I asked the tailor if I was still in the same price ball park--he said yes, yes, but I will call you later with an exact quote (even though he was present through the entire consultation and the seamstress told him what she'd have to do--and the fabric had not changed since the Saturday before.

I took his word and figured I'd be charged a price between 70-100.
LATE--VERY Late in the afternoon the tailor called me up (my event is 5 days away at this point) and tells me that because he has to do lining on the silk shirt it's going to cost 140--rather than the first price quoted.

I countered a bit but figured "what can I do--maybe he is being legitimate--even though I felt like I was being taken."

After talking with a friend who also had a very nice dress made for the same event I realized I was being taken--as well as getting opinions on this board. I called the shopowner up and let him know that because I was in a bind and because I am a person of my word and I had verbally committed myself to the blouse I would buy it for the 140. however I would never buy ANYTHING from him again.

I told him I did not think it was legitimate to double the price (he did originally say it may cost  70-or up to 100.-so by increasing to 140.  from the 70. that is double)--he got very angry and told me he wasn't a fly by night shop and blah, blah, blah. I said, fine--I do what I say and I will pay the140. but in the future he should not try to double the price on unknowing customers.

In anger he asked me "well, what do YOU wanna pay?" I said, the price you origianally  gave me--between 70-100, I am willing to pay the 100.--I just don't want to be ripped off.

Anyways, I get there to try the shirt on--supposedly it is finished--it was botched beyond belief--I honestly could not BELIEVE this shirt. One shoulder had a ledge which hung off of the shoulder (just extra material--a flap, hanging off of the side of my arn)--
I guess that would make for a great tool if my husband needed to drag me from the building quickly--

the other shoulder was just smooth--the flap was not a minor flaw---it was very obvious--at least 2-3 inches in length and width.

I could tell that the shop owner knew the shirt was bad--but tried to make excuses, he said well, this is only the fitting--we can fix--this was not something that could be ficed without starting over and at this point I am only 2 days from my event.

the bottom of the blouse wasn't laying down right so I looked under the shirt and the lining was ruffled up and stitched very loosely with approximatly 4 -5 inches between each entrance point--just gapping thread--it was unreal! I asked him about that and he said that it was hand sewn--OMG!!

This shirt looked like someone's grandma's throw-a-way--I would not have paid 5.00 bucks for the shirt.

Anyways--Beware of this "reputable tailor"...not only does he try to slam you on the price, he also produces HORRIBLE work--I don't know if the seamstress has changed since my friend used them (many moons ago) or what--but I am telling you --this shirt was horrible. It looked like something i would have sewn but not AT ALL what you'd expect from a seasmstress of any sort.

To make a long story short I will be wearing something I already own to this event--it will work--just wasn't what I wanted to wear.

Anyone experienced anything like THIS?
