I was watching the local 'blockbuster' drama production for Channel 5 tonight - "Fighting Spiders"

It's very amusing....it has some crazy character in it who looks like the wild woman of Borneo. She doesn't do much apart from scream, wail and chase some young boys with a big stick.. Cheesy

I love hearing the Singlish Cheesy

There is a young man in the cast whom is English,(Frederick Fielding) I guess he goes to one of the international schools here.

There is a website for "Fighting Spiders" series with trailers on Singapore's Medicorp website.

Is anyone else watching it?

someone is trying to push it on with this post, and attempt to make it a "blockbuster".  Apparently they have little understanding of what that actually means, and they want it to be an eye catching post.  After all, to hear there is a true 'blockbuster' on tv here is a rarity.  This is definitely not one of those occasions.

to 'it means'

I made the o/p but in no way would I term it as a 'blockbuster' - Channel 5 is claiming that it is! Grin

At least I found out what 'ting ting' means.....it's some kind of sweet/candy. The UK band called the Ting Tings recently performed here (their music was advertising the iPod not long ago) and I wonder if that's where they got the name of the band from.

Anyway - it's a far better production than "Masters of the Sea" which was so bad it was good, if you know what I mean (it made 'Crossroads Motel' worthy of a BAFTA).

Singabore has it wrong.

Blockbuster refers to movies only. Lines for movies like Star Wars and Jaws would be city blocks long. Hence blockbuster. Since this is on tv and no one is lining up it would not be a blockbuster. Nor can it be a blockbuster before it is reviewed or shown

Red Strings or threads is their other blockbuster. That is just downright awful. Funny looking "comic" "artiste" Adrian Ping as the evil guy is not only awful he can not even act. I guess Mediacrap is tired of trying to copy western shows so now they are trying for Korean/Taiwan/Hk dramas.  Stick to showing shows from outside of Singapore, no one at mediacrap can act or write. They can only do product endorsements

From Wikipedia

Blockbuster, as applied to film or theatre, denotes a very popular and/or successful production. The term was originally derived from theater slang referring to a particularly successful play but is now used primarily by the film industry.

Although I'm local, I always cringed when they opened their mouth. Funny enough, I enjoyed Phua Chu Kang ( except Mr Phua Chu Kang himself ) and Under One Roof. I do not seem to understand why they need to promote Singlish when it was not widely used internationally as a language. If Mediacrap is using it to attract locals, they could be doing the locals a disservice. Here, Singapore is promoting Good English movement and the series is doing otherwise.

I would prefer the use of Singlish on more leisure or on a personal settings rather on a larger gathering of audience

I actually liked PCK before he spoke "proper English" His Singlish is what made the show funny. Plus they added the guy in the short shorts as a helper and that was really unwatchable
