Hi, My husband is accepting a position in Singapore and I would love to find an NGO job as well. Are there any job websites you all could recommend? My background is US civil rights and philanthropy (working at US foundations). I have experience globally but in Latin America, mostly Mexico.
Appreciate any advice.

The American Womens Association has a job listing site. They also are really connected with many charity organizations. I don't remember if the job listing part of the site is available to non members, but you could give their office a call and visit with them. If you come for a look see you could stop in their office and chat face to face.

Start as a volunteer with those that really need help. For example, Red Cross Home for the Disabled, Singapore Association for the Visually Handicapped, Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore. Even the old folks homes, orphanages etc really would appreciate your volunteered help.

Hey, I've also been looking for NGO work. Very few rael independent orgs - lots are government run. It's not like grassroots organisations you get in the rest of the world or even Asia. Look here though http://www.ncss.org.sg/home/index.asp - their charities are generally called welfare organisations from what I can see. There are definitely more interesting projects than the standard old age homes or homelesness issues (not belittling the important of those issues but from the sound of your background they're not your interest either). The volunteering people do out here is not really of a very deep or impactful nature - although they have a community mediation service, but only take on locals as mediators - there's lots of that going on it seems. If you find out anything more let me know!

I am wondering how it went for you guys. Did you find any jobs at NGOs in Singapore? My boyfriend is taking a position in Singapore and I would love to find something at a NGO since I am studying human rights at the time!

lots of expatwendys go and join the riding for the disabled group - not really to help the kids though, just for somewhere where they can hang out and natter/gossip...

Try w w w. n c s s . g o v. s g / social_service_jobs / job_list. asp
However most NGO jobs do not pay well and hours are long. There is UNIFEM here but the office is very small and they don't really recruit people, except for interns for gala fund raising events.
You can try googling for Mercy Relief.

You ever get the feeling you're looking in the wrong spots? It's kind of like looking for investment banking positions in Islamabad, Mombasa, Tripoli, or Lagos.
