I am planning to apply for a Singapore PR and just need to know what my chances are. I have just finished my MBA in States, have approx 4-5 years of prior experience and would be taking up a job with a firm that unfortunately doesn't sponsor a work visa. Now since I have a degree from States, I have applied for a work holiday permit that will allow me to work for 6 months. I would put in my PR application during this 6 months time through my wife who is a Singapore Citizen (We got married recently ... just 3 months back).

From what I have read I think the ICA looks at the PR application positively if the applicant has atleast 6 months of work exp in Singapore (preferably on a work visa) and has been married for atleast a year. What would you all say? Should I go ahead with my PR application through my wife or apply for a Landed PR instead?

If you subsequently get divorced, you will have problems renewing your PR if you applied as a spouse. May be a small issue now but may become a big one one day (based on Singapore statistics). So my advice, apply on your own.

Dexter,

This is weird:

"...a job with a firm that unfortunately doesn't sponsor a work visa..."

It doesn't cost them anything to apply EP for you, so their reluctance to do so would raise alarm bells in my mind.

My opinion re: your query is to take the easiest route to obtain you PR.  That would be via your spouse.  It is a no-brainer in my mind.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks VulcanI and depends. I have also read on some of the forums that one has to be married for a year or two to apply for a PR. Would applying immediately (within 4 months) be viewed negatively? I don't know how much of my education (dual degree) and work experience will be looked into while evaluating my application. If it is then I presume it will help atleast make my appn stand out in terms of other factors (possibility of finding a job, contributions to CPF etc).

You can apply for 1 year Long Term Social Visit Pass. Maybe even longer. Your wife will be the 'sponsor'.

My friend was in the same situation last month. His wife wasn't working, so he was told to apply PR under his own merit. Instead he applied a long stay visa and got it.

Get a self sponsored work visa (PEP) and you can get a PR independent of your wife status

I'm not sure what their criteria is based on, but I'm single and applied within a month after arriving here on an EP. Got approval within a couple of months.
