There is nothing that bad about Newton Circus. Sure, the prices are a little higher than further out, and yes you can be ripped off if you allow the seafood mafia touts to convince you to order from them, but the place is clean, central and convenient. The beer is cheap (for Singapore) and the normal food is good, even if the choice is little limited.

For some reason it seems to be fashionable amongst those expats who consider themselves to be in the hawker 'cognoscenti' to declare that Newton is only for tourists. Given that 90% of the customers at Newton are local, this is of course nonsense
