China is not a democracy. Is that a advantage or a disadvantage? I think it's the former.

It does not matter what is better. It is only about what is right. Democracy is the only system that respects what is right.

No it does not.
It expresses the will of the majority.
Hitler was democratically elected.

Surely democracy is always better? But what constitutes a democracy?

The USA and UK are "democracies" nevertheless they invaded Iraq against the wishes of the majority.

In UK now we have an unelected Prime Minister who is appointing unelected members of his cabinet, disregarding the elected members of parliament who traditionally take this role. Its no excuse that they are all corrupt and fiddle their expenses. He is effectively designing a government infrastructure perfect for a move to dictatorship and we have no oversight or systems that prevent this other than the Queen who could sack him and call elections.
We also have no Constitution or Bill of Rights.

So what is a democracy?

Democracy was invented by the ancient Greek city states. Universal adult suffrage. The will of the majority prevailed. Of course, women, slaves, foreigners and paupers did not vote. Not all the cities were democracies. Athens, a democracy, was eventually conquered by Sparta, a sort of monarchy.
The state was small so the voters had a reasonable idea of what they were voting about. Rome reached its greatest power when it stopped being a democracy.
The Ottoman Empire was not a democracy, not was China.
So called democracies today are not democratic in any true sense of the word. A possible exception is Switzerland where referenda are called when any major change is proposed.

I agree, Switzerland is the best example of demoncracy.
I was not trying to say the current elected powers are right, I was just saying that the majority will of the people is the best representation of what is right.

I have good faith in the human spirit and if given a true hearing, its ability to make the right choice for the society.

What has Iskandar got to do with hinterlands?
Iskandar is going to be Singapore's hinterland?
Can Singapore build a air base there?

The intelligence of agents never fails to surprise me.

Speaking of hinterlands, I would expect Iskandar to make Singapore a pile of money over the next 15 years.

I think this thread will come to life again soon as the folly of this mini asset bubble creates havoc on the Singapore economy.

As the experts say, look at the fundamentals and be scared.
