I wonder if anyone has been in the situation I find myself in, and if so, what did they do and did it work?

I live in a condo. The people above us like to play the piano - nothing wrong with that except when it happens at 10pm or later. They also seem to like to slam doors at a similar time or much later. I've complained to them (several times), the management office, the landlord and my company (it's a company lease) but to no avail. The landlord's agent has suggested I call the police which I'm reluctant to do for a number of reasons.
Anyone else had noisy neighbours?

Yeah, it's a rotten situation, I don't know how one's neighbours can be so inconsiderate. Perhaps you could retaliate by giving them an early morning wake-up call by being noisy yourself...y'know, buy a whistling kettle and let it boil for a few minutes here and there! Or play some loud rock music - but check with other close neighbours and explain the situation first!

I guess another option might be to wear some ear-plugs but personally I don't think I could bear to wear them all evening or night. You can buy them at Apex or Guardian pharmacies.

Do you live in my apartment??  My upstairs neighbors do the same thing, and seem to have wild parties on the weekends (at least that's how it sounds!).  I don't mind the piano playing during the day, but after 10 is a little ridiculous.

Between the party hounds upstairs and the barking hound across from us, it's a wonder my two babies sleep at night.  :-)

If I'm not wrong, after 11pm you can call the police and they will interfere on your behalf.
I know it's not the nicest thing to do to one's neighbour, but if all else fails, sometimes you have to be nasty....

I feel so sorry for you. This is very common here.We have a neighbour who seems to like hammering walls from 10pm onwards each night. The management tried (no luck) and I finally took the view he was SO inconsiderate that direct action was needed.A threat to "stick his hammer where the sun dont shine!" worked a treat although he wont acknowledge me in passing.Cest la vie.

And if you sic the police on them often enough, they should break under the pressure and stop their nonsense.  I had noisy neighbours once too and luckily enough, all my other neighbours rallied behind us re calling the police and put pressure effectively on the recalcitrant ones to stop.

Some people can be so selfish. Retaliation wont help but the first step in any dispute is to ask them politely to stop... Lucky you only rent and havn't purchased the place.

I guess if it gets so bad you will have to loose the deposit and move house.

I don't know how people learn to live with pianos, noisy dogs, karaoke in high rise living conditions ?

One of the best ways to get your peace and quite is to make friends with those noisy neighbours. Bring some home-made cookies or sweets or curry etc and introduce yourself; "..live here in this same block, would like to know as many neighbours as poss, blah blah.." You'll be surprised at developments. They'll be the first to ask if they're disturbing your peace. And, surprise, surprise! you'll somehow find that the disturbance isnt that intolerable.
Worked for me all the time wherever I flatted. Cheers.

I live in a brand new condo that costs S$2.4 millon to buy, I only rent. My neighbour across the hallway insists on having his front door wedged open that faces my door, Everynight I can sit and watch my TV but hear his, plus the kids crying, him shouting etc. Why can you take a man out of the kampong but not the kampong out of the man.
