It's my 40th Birthday soon and I have asked that my husband take me somewhere of my choice (for a change!!) I just had a baby and a very difficult pregnancy and so I'd love to go somewhere a little luxurious but kid friendly (as have 2 under 3 years) where we can eat good food, do a little shopping, have a lovely pool and a nice beach. I do not want anywhere rowdy with loads of clubs. Been to Phuket a million times. Any ideas?

I was thinking of Bali but not too sure where to go there?

The Datai at Langkawi. Easy to get to, the beach is just beautiful and kids are welcome at the lower pool...

the Intercontinental in Bali - get a Club room. You have your own Club room pool and it includes your own area for cocktails and snacks and a separate breakfast area.  You get to use all the hotel facilities (which are great for the kids) as well as a little luxury for yourself.
Other friends love the the Conrad and the Grand Hyatt.
There is also the Legian, which is top end luxury,  but not sure how kid friendly it would be.
I'd recommend getting a driver and heading to Ku De Ta for lunch - it's  more an adult only place at night but lunch is so much easier with kids!
Enjoy!

Can't comment on some but grand hyatt bali is v kid friendly but huge (great spa though).

I'd book my own villa in seminyak though.  Been to bali loads of times and that is way the best option.

As well as ku de ta try la lucciola and salt for upmarket tapas.

Happy birthday (same next year for me).

Go to the big bookshop and look at some Asian Hotel guides, like Hip Hotels. There are amazing places out there, not these big chain things... boring! Find something special!
