Hi

I have been offered to be based out of Singapore next year. I am currently based out of Australia and not sure if the S$200K p.a package (all in) is adequate for living and to support my 2 children education in international school. I could live humbly at suburb location in government housing but I did my sum and it shows that it will be tight. Anyone care to provide an insight to allow me to make a decision to whether the offer is OK to accept.

It will depend on what you are earning now in Oz, and what standard of living this affords you currently, which will of course depend on which city you are currently based in. International schools are not cheap, if you have 2 kids the fees will hit 30-40k per annum. This cuts your pkg to around S$160k. Bottom line is that if you dont count school fees and are willing to live in a decent private apartment, you will not be worse off in general if you are being paid the same, but you may not be very far ahead. If you want to save some money you can live a lot cheaper in Singapore (a comfortable lifestyle without the golf club memberships and luxury apartments) than say Sydney - but this would mean a HDB apartment or a smaller private one with decent facilities but not the plush orchard road sky palaces. I wouldnt move out here unless you were given a reasonable premium or are "forced" to.

Why don't you just stay where you are. If you come here then you should come for a reason. What's ur reason for wanting to come here. I'm amazed at all these "is 150K, is 200K" enough. How about "why do you want to come here". Why don't you work that out first?
