Hi,just off the boat and looking for a bank which offers full services, preferably with comprehensive online banking facilties as i'm away every 2 months (i work on rigs)
basically im paid in USD, would like to keep some in SGD since i live here and some in ZAR (rand) to send money home to SA and possibly the remainder to GBP/EUR if the USD rates dive again. I also have monthly bills which i hope to pay electronically via GIRO each mth....
and a low minimum balance. not keen on a grass diet  Tongue
Anyone out there with some pointers?? Thanks.

If you qualify for it, you can have money in several currencies and transfer between them.  They don't have anything like as many branches and ATM's as the local banks in Singapore (can be a pain) but you can get cash from Cold Storage shops and Guardian/

Agree that HSBC are good, but am not sure that the S$200k requirement for a Premier qualifies as a low minimum balance. Smiley  I think though that you can open a multi-currency account if you are a normal account holder.

Yes, HSBC multi-currency account can be opened without being Premier customer.
Please note that most banks will probably close currency accounts after 1 year if you have not put any deposit in it.

At least, HSBC is doing that. Found that out when I wanted to put money into AUS account and had not used it for more than a year, and found out it was closed without notification. Had to go to the branch to re-open it.

Standard Chartered offer multi-currency accounts with easy online transfer between accounts at good rates and online international transfers (max amount about SGD $20k online, larger by phone)
