Hi I have two kids - 12 and 9 - and I now thinking of going back to work full time (kids at school all day with lots of extra curricular; have a maid) as I would like the fulfillment and the money would really help.
I was wondering how many of you out there both work and how do you manage it all?  I would not be high powered so even though I would work 5 days I cannot see myself working long  hours.  And, we've never done the whole six weeks back every summer in the home country thing .  I imagine that thanks to our helper it would all be a lot less frantic than back in Europe.

We both work full time, although I'm a teacher so get the long holiday with the children.  Most of the expat women on my condo work, particularly once their children are at school - but then none of us are on huge expat packages so there is some incentive!

I don't work, only 2 of my friends work and they work in education environment where holidays are great.  I've never done the 6-8 week jaunt per year either, honestly I don't know how you would manage the whole school holiday scenario unless you are comfortable with your maid effectively bringing up the children, or whack them into summer school program.  I have thought about going back to work but think it would negatively impact our family life, my husband travels alot with work and I think I need to be the constant factor in their lives.

Our children are a similar age and I'm thinking of going back to work too - the main problem I'm having is that I can't actually find a job!  Unless you're PR you might have the same problem.

Most of my friends work.  But most of them are part-time.  I work from home part-time which is perfect.  I've got very casual hours so can fit them around the kids school and activities.

As for finding a job it is certainly who you know here.  I'd suggest joining one(or several) of the Chambers of Commerce and get along to their events.  Get talking.  There are lots of Expats here with businesses who need/want someone to help out.

We both work. I worked full-time pre Mini but now work 2 afternoons and 2 evenings per week. I'm lucky enough to have a job that also has about 3 months off per year, so plenty of time to still see the family etc.

Not US, try the ones from DownUnder.  But your preference might depend on your nationality.

We both work.  I have a full time job and my partner runs a business so he has a bit of flexi time for the girls.

NZ Chamber of Commerce good as are the UK and OZ ones.
