Hi all

We were going to go to the Singapore Airshow on Feb 6-7, but I've read that there are huge crowds and queues for transport, getting in etc.

We are mostly interested in the aerial displays.  Is there a good place to view the aerial displays without going to the actual exhibition venue?  Perhaps Pasir Ris park, Changi beach or near the Changi coast boardwalk?

Cheers!

On the website the organisers promote it is one of the 3 best airshows in the world! A one hour display and a few planes in a carpark.

Gotta laugh at the artistic license. Its such a shame people here don't ever question all the bullshit.

The promotion is written to attract the locals. Do you expect them to think or question anything ?

Yup, hundreds of unthinking MNCs have taken the bait and taken up space at the airshow. Tens of thousands of unquestioning foreigners have participated in earlier shows and will again be suckers next month.

Went once and swore to myself never again, due to the crowds and traffic. I will be watching from a boat this year. I think either Changi beach or the boardwalk at the end of Pulau Ubin would be the best viewing spots. Pasir Ris park is too far away and "around the corner"

no, what is a shame is that some people's default position is that everything in Singapore is rubbish and that claims of excellence are always hyberbolic.

If you knew anything about the aviation industry, you'd know that the Singapore airshow isn't some 2-bit, provincial fiasco. Many of the world's major manufacturers exhibited at the last one, billions of dollars worth of deals were done, and it was widely seen by the industry as a success.

Gotta laugh at imbeciles like Mr Singapore.

My initial aim was to get a rise out of silly little angry idiots who like to argue wuth strangers on the internet. - SUCCESSFUL

My second aim was to question whether the organisers claims of this being one of the top three airshows in the world is correct. It seems no one is prepared to confirm or deny this outragous claim?

As with most things in singapore the locals have no experience of comparison and organisers/ad companies quite happily lie knowing the local population wont ever question it. The end result is you get defensive locals thinking they have a great product (because someone told them so) when they really have a second rate excuse for an event.

The singapore airshow is about a 10th as good as Fairford in the UK (8 hours of non stop flying displays) or Langley in the US. Paris is also usually quite spectacular. Google them before you start with some pathetic defense of this two bit show.

To add the the list Biggin Hill and Farnborough also 10 times better than the Singapore 'one hour of display' show.

this is what some locals had to say on the ST website

This kind of show is always design with the important delegates in mind. From the experience of previous airshows, they are all major failures for the paying general public in terms of programs, timings, transportation .... etc. No point wasting time on trying to get there in the first place and pity the National Service guys playing marshalls.

I agree. You are treated like cattle and herded from one place to another in quick succession.

I am giving it a miss from now on.

Malaysia just hosted their air show last nov or dec 2009, nothing new here.

Top three in the world. Yeah right. Less bullshit please singapore!

Wow! If you're getting your knickers in a twist about whether the Singapore airshow's claim to be one of the top 3 in the world is accurate or not.....you really need to get out more!

What a trivial issue to get worked up about....if that's the sort of thing that troubles you, you really must be a sad person!

You must be doubly sad if you get pleasure from 'getting a rise from silly little angry idiots'!

Dude.....I'd take a long hard look in the mirror if you want to find a silly little angry idiot!  Grin
