We have had a strange thing happen this week and it's really bugging me.

one of our sons school uniforms seems to have disappeared from the house....he didnt have any playdates or after school activities last week and hasnt changed clothes at school before coming home.

Our maid says she doesnt know where it is. I still cant work out why a kids school uniform would be any use to her and there is no way it could have left the house between the laundry basket and the washing machine. She insists she doesnt know how it got lost...

Why would someone steal a school uniform?

Is it possible it was accidentally put away in another child's closet, or somebody else's room?

Are both the shirt and shorts missing? If so, there is a greater chance that the uniform has been misplaced or stolen. If only one piece of it is missing then maybe the maid got a bit too enthusiastic with the bleach or ironing and she's too sh*t scared to tell you?

The same thing happened to us; although just with shirts.  They materialsed hidden in laundry room months later, indeed with bleach marks on the collars.

We have searched the whole house. My first thought was that the uniform was damaged and she was too scared to tell us but she has damaged plenty of stuff before and told us about it.

I have searched the whole house and it is nowhere to be found, both shirt and shorts have vanished.

I have stopped buying bleach now because of other clothes that were damaged so have no idea. Guess we will just have to let this one go and keep an eye on the laundry from now on. It just bugs me because I have no idea what she would want with a school uniform and lying about it just makes me angry.

it seems like too much of a coincidence that both items could have gone, but do you think they could have blown over a balcony?  We dry our clothes on the balcony and have occasionally lost items when the wind had got up suddenly - it has been quite windy lately.

No, we live in a house and hang our clothes in the enclosed area at the back of the house.

I dont know its just weird.

Pull things out of drawers in all your bedrooms and go through them one by one -- the chances are high it ended up in someone else's room. I've found my clothes mixed in with my husband's or children's clothes before and the same is true for their things ending up in our room, etc.

You'd have to have one really dim maid to steal a school uniform - what mother doesn't know the exact number of uniform shirts and shorts she has for each child? Duh. If it really doesn't turn up somewhere in your house, I'd start keeping a closer eye on things.

I could not find a blue sock this morning.  Does anyone know where it is?

Seriously, what is the point of posting this?  Is it another (yet another) excuse to do a little maid bashing?  Yes we all know that they are stupid and lazy and ruin our designer clothes.

Or are you a conspiracy theorist trying to prove that there is an international cartel dealing used school clothing and the maids are all padding their retirement funds from the profits?

If it really concerns you so much, file a police report then your insurance can cover the $35 value of the uniform.........................................

tip out the drawer where its usually stored and look behind. Maybe the drawer was full and it has fallen behind. This sometimes happens. Look in the dryer?

You really have to be at your wits end keeping an eye on things when you have a maid. If its not destroyed it's used, stolen or misplaced. good luck I am sure it will turn up once you forget about it. I have had things disappear and miracously appear when the maid is questioned, usually at the bottom of a pile of clothes.

If that's your situation then surely get rid of your maid! I've never felt like that with our maid.

It requires a particular set of management skills to deal with having a maid in the house and some people are simply not up to the task.

Should one missing school uniform really cause so much anxiety?  Only if the life skills are severely lacking!  Address the problem - move on
