Perhaps look at some of the condos up by Kew eg Kew Green, Kew Residences - there are also some lovely houses around there and due to the distance from the city you can get really good deals on places with pools. I would move to that area in an instant as it still has the suburbian feel to it lacking in most areas in Singapore yet the public transport makes it easily accessable to pretty much anywhere.

There are quite a few condos along the road behind Pasir Ris Park (think it's Layang Besar or something like that). Would be a great place for family (esp if you have a dog): parks, cinema, wild wet, fair ground, bowling, resaurants. Very resort-like feel to the place .... if partner doesn't mind the 30-40min commute into the city!

Bedok Reservoir road, Tanah Merah and Bayshore road have loads of condos and are the closest areas to the UWC EAST Tampines campus(around 10 to 15 minutes by bus or car)

I used to live near Upper East Coast. Nice area but you need to choose wisely. The condo was next to a mosque. I had wakeup calls from the loud speakers of the mosque blasting into the neighbourhood daily at 530am... and other intervals throughout the day... shifted out immediately after a few months..

I would avoid Kew Green and the entire area as it was ex-cemetery ground.....

You shouldn't worry too much about cemeteries in Singapore as they are unavoidable. Dhoby Ghaut was built on a Jewish cemetery and a good chunk of the River Valley area in on a former Muslim Cemetery. The word Tiong means cemetery in Chinese so anywhere with Tiong in it (like Tiong Bahru) is also on former cemeteries.

I thought it was illegal here for them to broadcast the call to prayer from outside the mosque (I've heard them do it on the radio instead). We live near a mosque and never hear any noise from there, so maybe it has only been law for the past 8-10 years (since we've been living near it). Someone once told me that they had to move from near a Hindu temple as there was loads of noise from there.

Given the efficiency of school buses, you might feel it is better to live somewhere that is an easy commute for working parents to maximise family time?

if you drive, then the tropica or aquarius by the park would be a good choice. they have full condominium facilities, huge pools, and easy access to the reservoir and the quarry park. travelling by car to suntec city takes 15mins via kaki bukit highway and kpe.
if you don't drive, then the condominiums around simei mrt (modena, tropical springs, simei green) or tanah merah mrt (casa merah, east meadows, the tanamera) would be a better choice.
hope this helps, cheerio.

I will be working at the UWC East Campus in 2010/2011 and then relocating to the Tampines Campus in 2011/2012. Does anyone know roghly Hi Eileen, how long it takes to get from Tanah Merha MTR to Ang Mo Kio MTR using the new Circle Line?
Many thanks!

Maybe it's crap typing rather than crap spelling - I'm crap at typing too!
Kiwi Teacher: That bit of the circle line has just opened today, so I wouldn't expect any replies for a while. How will you get from Tanah Merah MRT to the school? It's a fair way.
