Hi everybody,

my girlfriend and me will spend our holidays in malaysia from 12th to 30th of september.
We will arrive in Kuala L. and we plan to travel "backpacked" by bus / train / taxi. We both would like to visit one of these beautiful islands on the east-coast. I often heared about RAWA and "Le Club" that offers a cheap accomodation (price range 100-170 RM per night for 2 persons).
(This information is from http://wikitravel.org/en/Rawa.)

Is this location advisable?

I did not found any contact information / website and I also do not know where to arrange a ferry.

Are there any better islands for a 1-2 day stay in such wooden lodges?
Can you provide me some websites / material to look at?

My 2nd questions concerns the route for our "Kuala L. to Singapore and back"-trip:
I studied many tourist guides but I would like to know I you can suggest some places besides these "tourist-locations" that are between Kuala L. and Singapore and maybe you can recommend some good hotels that are affordable. I would also like to know what the best sightseeing point are in this area, e.g. temples and so on. Thank you very much for your tips!  Smiley

If you can't find info on Le Club you could try Rawa Safari which is the other resort on that island.  The boats go over there from Mersing so you could google for info about that.  I don't think you can book, I'm fairly sure you just have to go and sort it out when you get there (unless the island/resort you're staying on has their own boat).  I've looked into staying at Rawa before but it always seems quite expensive so we've never gone.

Tioman is another nice island, although the accommodation there seems to go from really basic to expensive, with not much in between.  I've stayed on Tioman once but it was one of the more expensive places and we flew there from Singapore.

Redang Island is supposed to be very nice and although it is further north, it might be worth heading out there.

I can't provide websites but if you search the internet I'm sure you'll find some info.  Try the virtual tourist site - travellers post their own info and photos.

Cameron Highlands are an interesting destination too or there's Fraser Hill which is a bit nearer to KL - you could backpack through there on your way to the coast.
