Villas are a very good idea (we've done that a few times) but depends how near the beach you want to be as price goes up the closer you are! Suggest that you G00gle Bali villas and contact some of the management companies with your budget and requirements, they're usually very helpful.

Some friends of our recently went to a resort called coconut iasland and were very happy. I believe it is a very new resort but don't know the ins and outs of it.
