Hi everyone,
Newbie here and hoping some members here can help.
I am a Uk university trained nurse, my wife is a chinese national, we currently live in the USA. We are thinking of relocating to SG, I have researched the requirements for getting registered with the Board of Nursing there, but my questions are;

1.what are peoples experiences of nursing there ?

2.which hospitals are good to work in and which are bad ?

BTW I have 14 years experience in ICU & ER nursing.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi. Apparently, SG is slowing down on hriing foreign expats. But with your experience i dont think youll have any problems. YOu should try Singapore General Hospital, i have heard they have openings. you can check job sites, thats where you can effectively lodge applications directly to them. I think if you could get a referral agency.

usbrit9,

you couldn't have picked a better time to come to Sg.

The government is trying to get 2 new hospitals going and went on a hiring spree for medical professionals.  Doctors and nurses have been poached from all other hospitals way before the new hospitals even open for business.  This have left quite a few institutions in desperate need of staff.

If you have a nursing degree, chances are you can jump into a nursing manager position.

My wife was a senior nurse in uk (h grade).

Looked at it here and didn't bother. Only offered entry position and pay was dire. Also nurses here have much less authority or decision making capacity than in the west, basically just doctors skivvies.

plenty of positions but the salary is very low. PP was right, nurses here are treated very lowly.

Another couple of things.

Discussed with wife the other day. Apparently in the press about how to convince people here to go into nursing, proportion of locals is very very low.

Salaries are rubbish.  Also the unis don't give nursing degrees, only polys which tells you something about the regard in which it held.

If you want I'm sure you would get a job but think you would be very disappointed on both job and pay.
