Not us?

Don't make me laugh. The career whingers on this site constantly compare Singapore to the first world. It borders on obsession.

The problem with you lot is you have no grasp of history. If you did you would realize how remarkable Singapore has been in the last 30 years.

And if I was to do a straight-up comparison with the First World, I would still say Singapore more than holds its own. Despite its severe geographical limitations it still succeeds in giving its people  access to education, employment and healthcare that compares well with most developed countries.

And unlike many places in the West today, its children won't inherit a back-breaking debt and unsustainable entitlements that will most likely lead to decades of decline.

Scorn,

You cant expect the "career whingers" to not compare Singapore to the 1st world when minsters, media and Singaporeans keep saying how 1st world it is.

As normal here, this is a case of having your cake and eating it too with Singapore.

Yes Singapore has done well, but if you were to take closer looks at the numbers you would see it hasn't done as well as everyone thinks or is told.

It has no pension worth talking about (cpf mostly gone) and no unemployment support.

Due to "Asian values" this falls on the younger community to pay for, given ageing population and dire birth rate the next generation may be rather worse off than you care to think.

Scorn doesn't get it.

Security here is by family not government.  When the birth rate breaks this fails (hence the govts panic).  Ok low tax (this is helped by high density living which means infrastructure per head is cheaper which is an inherent advantage) but anyway.  Singapore has it's strategic position and (obviously controversially) the foresight of it's colonial father to thank for capitalising on this.

It is weird that given the country is about 90% immigrant they have such an issue with foreigners since almost all were in the first place.

In any case, you are correct.
