Moving to Singapore on 1st May with wife and three kids (20mths, 4mths x 2). Any ideas on best temporary accommodation for a month before we move into our own place? We would prefer to rent someones condo if they were going on holiday rather than serviced apartment. Where is the best place to look for this type of thing? Thanks.

Just curious, why would you want to rent someones apartment rather than a serviced apartment?

Have you seen the prices of serviced apartments? There are often not that spacious either.

I stayed at Great World City for a few months. It's a good choice with a kids pool and the ajoining mall. They have some larger 3 bedroom units or you may want to squeeze into a 2 bedroom for cost purposes. Serviced apartments may be negotiable on price, they were last year. You can save a little sometimes by taking less maid services. Normally relocation contracts pay for the first month. You can find cheaper places out of the central area, I'd avoid Orchard Rd ones as they are particularly expensive. I doubt anyone will rent you their apartment for a  month, too short, too much hassle and you may be surprised that the price isn't that much different.

We also stayed at Great World apartments when we arrived and it was a really good way of settling in.  Do phone and find out the prices - we paid substantially less than the prices on the website.

Do also try Leonie Hill - the prices were okay too.  We were slightly limited in our choice because we had pets with us.

We are here temporarily and rented a short term apartment through LMB Housing, which I believe is an advertiser on this site.  So far so good.  The cost is quite a bit less expensive than serviced apartment, but is fully furnished with 2X per week cleaning service. Our apartment is in the Heritage View.  The quality of the furnishings is only ok, but I think if we had paid more we could have chosen an apartment with nicer furnishings.

The cheapest we could find slightly over a year ago was Park Avenue Suites.  They are tolerable for 1 month (although we stayed about 7 weeks as I was too busy at work to look for a more permanent place.)

The location is quite good (UE Square - junction of River Valley Rd. and Clemenceau)and you can walk to Orchard in under 15 minutes with plenty of buses passing just outside.

They have a pool and a gym.  The furniture is quite tired but if you complain when they present you with the inventory list, they almost routinely offer to upgrade you.
They are also quite amenable to bargaining at the time of booking so bargain hard by email.

The management is quite incompetent and lazy hence it is not a well-run place as the staff get away with being lax.

They also have some duplex apartments in shop houses about 5 minutes walk (just off Mohammad Sultan Road.)

Many thanks for all the info. Much appreciated. Any views on Wilby Residences at Bukit Timah?
