You all must have had your movie experience spoiled.

You must have been exposed to the phone calls, the sms's, the 3 bags of noisy supermarket snacks, the conversations and the explaining the movie because of no subtitles.

Well we have just had  a family behind us with a child that decided he was either uninterested in the movie or scared.  So the child  was crawling around behind us and bumping our seats through the entire.  We told the child and the family off 3 times and still did not work.

What can movie lovers do? well....

One thing you may want to try is go to management after the movie and complain how your experience was spoiled we did this at Plaza Singapura and the manager was very understanding and offered free tickets nex time we came.  She also said to go get the ushers immediately and they would warn or eject.

I really think tolerating is not the way to go.  This is not some quaint custom or local way this is just plain RUDE.

On two occassions, punks kept kicking the back of our seats. After 2 ignored warnings, I got up, went behind their chair and kicked the back of their seats
REAL REAL HARD

After 1 minute of absolute hysteria, they miraculously never kicked our seats again.

I understand totally. Local movie goers are simply an embaressment....esp with the cellphones.

Strange to know that the first thing they whisper loudly, upon picking up the call is "I'm in the movie, call u back!"

Is that stupid or stupid?

We made the mistake of watching Matrix on Friday night. Putting up with people who feels the need to answer their phone and sending sms is one thing. But to have people behind you talking through the whole movie is another. What kills me is that the guy was trying to explain/ translate to the girl what was happening in the movie.

AAARRRRGGHHHH...

after trying to ignore them for the first 30mins.. I turned around several times and gave them the " will you shut up" stares. Unfortunately they didn't pick up the hints, and I had to resort to giving a big "ssssssssssshhhhhhhh"!!! This seems to work as they were quiet throughout the rest of the movie.

If you ask me, embrassing the local is the only way to go!!! I know it sounds rude and mean, but it seems to be the only we're able to watch a movie in peace.

And one more thing... what's the go with parents taking their 3 and 4 years old to a 9:30pm session of the Matrix!!!

I fully agree that shaming anyone (local or not) who disturbs a movie is the only way to go.

Hi Kiwigirly,
If you want Chinese subtitles, what would be the translation of "The Matrix", or "The Oracle", or "The One". Remember, these doesn't have the exact meaning in relation to the movie. What more if it was translated to chinese, thus, subtitles. I just heard from a local colleague that a "TV" or "Computer monitor", when translated to chinese, it means "electronic vision device". How 'bout "matrix"?  Probably, "too many electronic vision devices". But I doubt the Chinese language have plural forms of their nouns.

..reminds me of a translation of "Hamlet" into Japanese.  One of the English movie versions of Hamlet was subtitled into Japanese and the "To be or not to be, that is the question..." bit was basically translated as "It is? It isn't?  Isn't it?"

yeah, I have noticed that many locals are gibbering half-wits when it comes to movies and theatre. One solution is to only see movies at Gold Class...most of the kids cant afford it, and although you still get adult offenders, at least the seats are a bit futher apart.

I told this teenager who was telling her friend all the details about what she did last night on her handphone to be quiet. She had the nerve to want to argue, with the excuse "Others are talking, why do you pick on me, you must be racist".

I told her "Its not my job to reprimand everyone who is talking but if someone bothers me like you are I'll tell them". She then made a point of pointing out anyone who started talking from then on, expecting me to talk to them!

It is not true that this talking business is only rampant among locals. We were watching Matrix yesterday at Great World City and there were these 2 foreign teenagers who started talking when the architect chappie went on and on with Neo. And not to mention this other bunch of foreign young kids who started lying down on the aisle playing with popcorn, some of which got into my handbag as I found out later!
