I get 5450 + loose change after tax. I live with my stay at home wife in a 2 BR HDB apartment for $1800 and I'm still able to put away 2000+ SGD per month.

It depends on what you want to do with the rest of the money after paying your rent and other bills. If you want to eat out at fancy restaurants every day or be seen at the trendiest night spots then 5500 won't be enough. But if you have more simpler tastes then 5500 is perfectly doable even assuming that you are going to spend 2200 for a 1BR condo (you can find furnished units in the suburbs, will be about 30-45 mins commute daily to the CBD)

Unless you get at least 10k/month, don't come over. It is not worth the while to have to live on a tight budget in a foreign land. Even at 10k, you are not living a happy-go-lucky lifestyle. Going out is not exactly cheap unless you want to do local.
