I'll start it off, pls add your own....

Friend gets a registered letter notification so goes to the PO and receives the letter stating that his home phone number is under investigation for being the origin of a number of harrasing and threatening calls made by a woman by the name of <insert western sounding name here>

Has no idea who this woman is and asks flatmates if they know....nope a maystery to all concerned so he forgets about it for a few weeks.

Gets a phone call from a local guy who has tracked him down through a private detective asking if <insert western sounding name here> lives in his house as she is local boys ex girlfriend and ever since they broke up she has been calling him and threatening him from his home number as well as FE Plaza and the mini mart across the road.

Friends says "I'll tell you what, send me a picture of your ex girlfriend" at the same time he sent the guy a pic of his then maid and bingo, we have a match.

Local boy says "Oh my god I was seeing a maid?, I thought she worked for a large MNC IT company (my friends employer)" and sends my friend her resume to prove it. It turned out to be my friends resume with his name taken out and her alias inserted. Local Boy thinks she is a major account manager servicing HK and ASEAN and this is confirmed to him by the hats and T shirts with the company name on them that she is always wearing.

Local Boy then asks about the expensive jewellery that his maid girlfriend was always wearing. Turns out she was 'borrowing' my friends ex wifes jewellery to go meet Local Boy.

My friend is a little shaken by this stage so he asks "Err tell me, was the relationship intimate?" because she has been putting on the angelic catholic act for 3 f*%king years...." yes, we often had sex in her apartment on her big 4 poster bed" says local boy. "Er, her apartment?"..."yes the nice big one near the botanic gardens......

So....when they weren't looking she had been:

a. using his notebook computer
b. wearing his wifes jewellery
c. claiming thier apartment as hers while they were away
d. having a physical relationship with Local Boy on thier bed
e. using her ex employers name as an alias
f. claiming to be a senior a/c manager for a multi national IT company and forging a resume to prove it

Know what your maid is doing?....Really?

Pls add your stories...

Thank you Guido!  On my thread they were all slating me for being stupid - I still do not believe for one minute that ALL of those women in the bars in OT were professional whores - there were a lot of part timers on the lookout too.
As I said before - most of the ex pats dont want to know what the maid is up to cos then they would have to face up to it and it may then entail them having to do some cleaning themselves or God Forbid looking after their own kids.

didyouseethatone,

Well, I cldn't say if Guido is winding you up or not with that post.
However if there really are working maids out there moonlighting, one concern would be that of any health risks.
Maids are often in close proximity with kids and food prep.

Gosh, Didyouseethatone really is a busybody. She knows most of the expats and their innermost insecurities. It's a good thing someone is about to save us from ourselves.

Ja, if food contamination worries you I guess you don't visit restaurants, let alone bars and hawker centres. Oh and the kids had better stay at home, 24/7.

Don't forget maids are human beings, so don't talk about them as though they are some type of lower life form.

Of course there are a few maids on the game, but most of them spend their Sundays off harmlessly filling up Lucky Plaza.

If you are paranoid about what your maid is up to maybe you should put a private investigator onto the tails of your spouses and children.

Guido, your story is scary and unfortunately many maids are indeed into scams  especially the filippino ones . There are also good ones, hard working and genuinely honest.
I have seen countless of women shopping with their maids, believe or not, the maid actually ordering "her madam" to take this, buy that, as if they were two buddies out on a shoppping spree... Ridiculous.
Too many expats in Singapore come from poor backgrounds, and sudddenly are offered an oppportunity to work overseas. The lifestyle goes from dark small apt. in the suburbs to nice villa with amenities.. Wao! we can have a maid! Wao we can have a car...etc....
So not having any experience they go from an extreme (cruel and stupid behaviour) to another (complete laissez faire)
Obviously the filippina maid immediately senses that and will take every single opportunity to abuse that type of expat.
In Manila a maid is paid 38 to 57 USD a MONTH!!!  secretaries are paid 200 USD a month.  Managers are  paid  300 to 400 USD a month.
So when you give your maid 300 to 500 SGD a month ( tax free money) she is paid almost like a company manager !
These women  are  here to perform a job on their own free will and because they know they will make a **** load of money..
Just don't trust too much your maid and know how to keep your distances. Their job is to clean, cook, and obey orders. If you want them to be part of your family, be prepared to also know how to handle them.
Finally, I have a maid, I am single. She wears a uniform, and has been with me for 10 years. She does not say one word that is out of place. She appears adn disappears discreetely and knows how to pour wine and serve properly at the table.
When I bring to my house a girl, she knows how to pay her and show her the door.
She is Burmese by the way...

Didyouseethatone:  You’re still a dumb ass.  As Guido says, s/he never said anything about OT.  You are a busybody, with such an unpleasant moralistic tint.  So obsessed by “dirty sex” are we?  Question would you allow your children (theoretical if you have none) to go to school where a teacher has HIV/AIDs?  Are all HIV suffers “dirty,” or are just “whores” dirty? (not saying that all prostitutes have AIDs, but that is busybody’s assumption).

Anyway, with OT stuff, you are jumping to conclusions with no evidence - - except some inferences you made, but given that you did not pick up on the fact that OT is totally and fully a place prostitution at night, it is hard to trust your observations and inferences in this realmn.

Sorry Guido, but your story sounds made (not maid) up.  I would not normally mind getting such busybodies like DYSTO worked up for the fun of it, but she is on the edge with this strange crusade of hers and she does not need more fire for her obsessive moralistic pursuits.

Maid using notebook?  The guy did not have security on it – like basic login in to boot it up.  Seems unlikely.

Wearing wife’s jewellery?  That was not in a secure place?  Most people I know have locked places (cabinets, drawers, etc) for their valuables.

Claiming apartment was hers?  What did she do with ALL the stuff from her employers?  Tucker it away conveniently in corner when she had people over?  What happens when this guy, or other people, shows up at night/weekends unexpectedly?  Or doesn’t the guy catch on when he can only come over in very limited amounts (when they are on holiday)?

Not so sure that a maid can impersonate a senior manager and especially one with a Western background (ex-employer probably Western and CV reflects this).  I am not saying maids are not intelligent.  But, she could fully impersonate (talk the talk, walk the walk)?  What about clothes – where did she get clothes that would make her look like she earned that much money?

Sorry, too many holes, for me to believe Guido.  Cheers if you were getting DYSTO’s goat, but it scares me when rigid moralists like her get worked up.

Oh man...now I have to go through and fill the holes in the bloody story!!

She is no longer his maid, but was when he was still married. That should fill that one.

She claimed the whole apartment and contents as hers..as in 'do you like my lounge suite, the TV belongs to the landlord'

What else.... Oh the reason the maid and local boy broke up is because he was starting to see holes in her story...and I suspect that local boy wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

No password on the notebook and part of the problem was that she was allowed to check her hotmail on the aforementioned notebook.

Interesting that no one credited her with having the intelligence or initiative to do this when the truth is she had finished a degree in biz studies and was well educated.

In fact the whole problem started because they tried to be fair and put way too much trust in her. They were a young couple who didn't have children and she had way too much time on her hands esp when they were both out of town. She did a good job and they trusted her...they shouldn't have.

Oh and BTW she still owes them thousands of dollars for the phone calls she made to some bloke she met on the net.

This isn't a wind up and there are a million other similar stories I'm sure....I actually started this post because the OT thread was all about maids and it shouldn't have been.

Yes they are people and have feelings and emotions like the rest of us but beware, they are not part of the family..they are employees just as you and I are in big companies and we take liberties sometimes too.

Interesting thing to note is that ALL of the maid stories I have are from expat families. Local families are strict and have the line clearly drawn...the slightest hint of inappropriate behaviour and they are off back to the agency. As expats we tend to think of people as equals and we always give people too many chances....right or wrong?..I dunno, but I would love to read some of your stories....
