not true. I am single and have asked permission to bring my maid. It was granted. You can have a maid if you are single and know how to ask properly

I believe the story. It could easily happen with a smart maid and a dumb boyfriend. Many Filipinas here have uni educations. One of my colleagues has a maid who does all the cleaning...and tutors the kids in English since she has the best command of the language in the household. I have a part time maid who has the keys to my place. I've been gone for weeks at a time, who knows what she's done while I'm away. I certainly don't, nothing ever gets stolen and the place is always clean. Everyone deserves to have a life.

Dont worry Guido - I believe you and found your story a nice comedic relief - although scary as it could happen to anyone. Filipinas are great , they are clever and use thier initiatives - something we are not used to in Africa. However that also can work as an disadvantage because they are all qualified in their various fields and therefore have the savvy and the intelligence to think up these scemes and get away with them. Back home where I come from having a maid is not a luxury but a necessity and everyone has one and all children grow up with them. Most of them have the lowest of educations and the only form of possible employment is domestic help. They do not have the intelligence like the fillipinas to think of these grand scemes but we do have the odd theft problem (should any sanctimonious foreigner start nonsence about years of repression/ racism etc - save it - in my country the very black government is enforcing the above on its own people) What I am trying to say is appreciate the help that you have but keep your eyes open. Yes we are all people and yes we all have human rights but some people have different agendas. Try and treat your maids with respect - but demand the same from them... ie - these are your parameters those are mine. In other words dont try and be pally pally with them - they are not your friends, they are your employees. And I think stories like Guidos should be welcome to remind you of those facts and what could happen (God forbid it does) but be aware.

To DA: my my are we not a little worked up over this one - nowhere have I said anything about sex being "dirty" - what you or anyone else gets up to in their spare time is of no big concern of mine - I do actually have a very full life and was just passing a comment on something that had happened whilst I was in an unfamiliar place such as OT - however I do seem to have got your goat - I wonder why - what little secrets are you harbouring - maybe I am not such a dumb ass at all - I have no children, nor do I have a maid so none of your crap concerns me - but if I did then I still would be concerned at some of what I see goes on in this supposedly sterile island - and furthermore I am not a busybody - I just have opinions which are like a.. holes everbody has one but in your case you ARE one. Dont bother to reply because I will not be picking up this thread again to have to read your drivel.

DYSTO, actually you DO seem concerned about what others do in their spare time, namely the maids. Also you have this problem with those that have maids, immediately insulting them. Not just a comment then. Please argue more intelligently if you must.

If you have no kids, you have no idea what you're talking about. Just because Mom isn't sweeping floors and cleaning out toilets doesn't mean to say she isn't raising the kids. I've got to agree with DA.

DYSTO: No worries, you cannot argue in a direct fashion (just indirect personal insults, while I provide direct personal insults and a direct argument! ). I don’t converse with dumb asses who cannot stick to direct points. (rest to) GUIDO: Do see your points, though I worry about "friend of a friend" stories and worry about people generalizing from individual instance. I guess reasonable care is called for, but I worry about people over-reacting - - like DYSTO’s now apparently-deleted OT post, where she suggests hiring private investigators to follow maids around. I think it is possible to be kind, humane, yet still able to draw distinct lines and limits. For example, I think the best teachers are this way. Maybe it is that balance that is needed, though it can be hard with children who understandably become attached to maids (so it is hard to deal with the family-not family issues). Couples with maids probably have easier times. Cheers for starting new thread – you’re right the OT thread should NOT have been about maids at all.

I'm on vacation, shovelling 30cm of snow from my family's driveway, as I've done all my life, without a maid. Get a life.

Read the language, style, etc and it is so obvious "Didyouseethatone" and "In Love" are posts made by the same troll but under different names. One individual is gleefully sat behind his keyboard furtively seeing how much more dissent he can stir up. Perhaps the Board Manager's staff could do us the favour of checking the IP of the two posters to see if I am right. I am willing to bet them I am. P.S. If I win my bet and the administration staff want to make it a double or quits bet I will bet Dr Evil is the same troll as well! [This message has been edited by PhilM (edited 07-01-2003).]

This story is absolutely true. My colleague is English and has a Singaporean Chinese wife. They're out at work all day and frequently overseas on business trips. One evening after returning from a trip, the wife answered the door to find her neighbour informing her that many male visitors had been calling at the apartment to visit the maid (don't know how they managed to get past the security guard, but the maid probably paid them off). After much interrogation it turned out that their maid had been entertaining sailors at $50 at time!!! As you can imagine, the maid was swiftly dispatched to Manila!

Does it matter if Guido's story is true or not? It's not like it's going to affect your life if it is! Here's a true story that will make your hair curl: A friend of mine was a maid for a rather odd family. One night she went out and returned earlier than expected. Imagine her surpise when she found them sitting around in her small room dressed in all her clothes, pretending to be her!!!

Sounds odd Geoffrey. Did the sailors line up around the block waiting their turns? Does not ring of the truth, sorry. Like Loops story, where maids stuff is being used by the employers.

Ok..there's clearly history between you and a thread I know nought about. I want to give Guido something for sharing his story (and I find it believable) THIS one is from a friend.(Not a friend of a friend)
"Fred" goes downstairs to his kitchen in the middle of the night to find that there is a naked Indian in his kitchen getting himself a drink of water. The following morning "Fred" asks his long serving trusted maid "Mavis, what was that man doing drinking in our kitchen last night?" Mavis respectfully replies "he was hot sir". What is the strangest part of this story is that despite this they took this maid back to their home country and she still lives with the family.(Apologies to Fred for blabbing if you are reading this)

I’ve been here for only 3 months now and my wife and kids have just joined me. I have a great life but I think I just screwed up. When I first came I was working all hours and so had a maid come part time to clean in the mornings. One morning in November I was still home when the maid started cleaning, I walked out and was bent over and I could see her quite explicitly, she noticed and didn’t mind. Anyway we had sex then and there and afterwards I felt so bad I fired her after giving her $1000 cash. The problem is she came back yesterday saying she was pregnant and I was the father. I believe her and now am stuck, I’m afraid to tell the wife and don't know what to do about this. Can any offer any help?

Buffy; Surprised that your friend tolerates such dirtiness. I know my own maid is NOT allowed to poop in MY HOUSE! She must go at least two MRT stops to poop. While pooping is a basic human physiological function, it is dirty – and no dirtiness in my house.
