HI there,

I am an expecting Mom (early), planning to move to Singapore for a placement with a technology company. This is an SAP-consulting employement. I would want to know what is the acceptable dress code for Office wear in Singapore.

I am an Indian. Want to know is a saree/ Salwar Kameez acceptable?

Thanks

Contact the HR department of the company you will be working for and ask them,  They will know the correct dress code for the company, asking here will only have people guessing on your behalf and giving you probably incorrect information.

Depends on the industry. If you are in IT or HR, salwars and sarees are ok. If you are in a client facing role in banking or other financial services then you may be required to wear western formal wear.
I generally haven't seen too many ladies wearing sarees to work though. Guess Salwars are more convenient. My wife and her Indian colleagues mix it up with with Indian and western wear. If your company already has Indian women at the worklace, then you can more or less expect to see the same kind of dressing as you would see in offices in Bangalore, Noida or Mumbai.

Above all don't ask the HR department, its much better to ask on an anonymous board  Roll Eyes

You can wear a mix of Salwar-kameez and western wear just like you did back home. Plus you wouldnt wear saree's usually except on ethnic days.

im at a big it company, and i visit a lot of my peers in the industry. ive never seen ethnic garb in client facing operations in singapore. its even rare to see in the back office function. western clothing is the norm in the it sector. for muslim women its a bit more common to see traditional clothing with head coverings and the loose fitting long shirt like outfit but not so much for indian women. for men ive never seen ethnic outfits being worn, no matter what their background is.
