Does anyone know why some companies require personal info of my spouse and children when I apply a job?  That includes DOB, citizenship, religion, race, etc.   Huh  Thanks.

I pobably should rephrase my question:  is it normal for a company of which I apply a job to ask for personal information of my spouse and children?  Do I have to give them all the detail they ask, including DOB, nationality, etc?  Will I not get a job just because I didn't provide such information?  Anyone has any experience on this?  Any advise will be appreciated.

I have experienced that a few times, I thought it was due to insurance and medical claims since normally the firm provides this for the family. But in general I find companies here want to know way too much compared to the west e.g. previous pay slip.

Thanks for your reply.  I was surprised when I had to fill in all the details of my spouse even before I started my first interview.  I eventually only put in the name and they seemed to be fine with that.  Well, haven't heard anything in regards to position. :-(

Some companies will not pay expat benefits to people with a local spouse. It's like that makes you less of an expat or something.  Roll Eyes

I've also noticed that there is a huge amount of stereotyping that goes on here. It is not unusual for people to assume that people of certain races or religions, for example, will not be suitable for a position. Sadly, it's likely that this information does enter into a hiring decision - otherwise, surely it would come much later in the application process. Like after signing the contract.

Well, if they are going to be applying for an EP for you, then they will actually need all that information.  Of course that only applies if you actually get the job.

Singapore organisations just like collecting personal data, it gives HR depts something to do
