My wife is a PR for a few months now. She wants to apply for a PR for me under her sponsorship. My question is, if  I get to become a PR am I required to do NS someday? It's not that I dont want to do NS but i just recently found out that I have a kidney problem and I dont think i could handle the training now . Before i found out about the disease i had no problems about it.a long time ago i had 2 years all in all military training here in my homeland because i was preparing my self to enter the armed forces but things went the other way and so i didnt became a soldier.

AFAIK it is only mandatory for the 2nd gen of PR need to do NS, so if you have any children these will be required to do NS. I think you will get a pro forma invitation to NS if you are below 40 years which you can decline - but I am a bit uncertain about that - I didn't get any cause I was older when I got my PR. But to be sure go to the NS web site and ask.

If you have a medical condition then you can still do your NS in an administrative function.

thanks man. now may I ask who  the first generation of PR are? if i get to become a PR by sponsorship of my wife am I still a first gen PR? coz I've just read that only the second generations are really required to do NS. I read in some forum that a few had died while in training for NS.I'm guessing they have some organ problems of some sort that they dont know. I dont mind dying fighting in a war but not while training.
