 Hi any recommendations on how to get rid of the get rid of the sandy grit in clams or other shellfish?

if the clams or other shellfish are still alive then make sure you get a bucket to get them in and bring them in water. If you have a little fish tank aerator that will work. You want to keep them alive for a day or two before using.

Now get corn meal and dump a bunch of it in the water, of course depending on how many clams you are talking about.

In a day or two you can use them as you see fit.

It is very important that you put them somewhere relatively cool and where they will not be disturbed at all (no prodding kids or anything)...

The principle is easy... they eat by filtering and expel the waste after its all used up...they will filter in the corn meal (soft and not bad tasting) and will expel the dirt and grime that they picked up in the ocean or where ever you got them from.
