Hi,
I have been living is singapore from past 3 years. During my 1st year of stay i was studying in NUS and then I was offered to apply for PR on completion of my course. Since Jan 2009, I had been a PR and working in Singapore.
I would like to seek advice on applying for the citizenship is a good idea or not. For me, there is not much benefit of keeping the citizenship from my country as I plan to settle in Singapore for a long time. Especially this year would be getting married here.
Probably some people might also say that too early for me to apply but I just want to seek if anyone has tried or not and whats the success rate.
Thanks

What's your nationality & gender ? This may have an impact on your citizenship application success.

Wait for 2 years at least..as a PR and then apply. Or wait until election is over. You are still young. No need to worry!! You will get it. Save money. Even if you become citizen as a later day, you have enough money to buy flats rightaway or whatever you name it.

I say you stand a good chance. I personally know 2 indian males (one in his 30s and one in his 40s) who are now Spore citizens.

SG citizenship is one of the easiest to acquire. If you have a decent monthly salary - $4k -, non-Malay, you will get your citizenship when you apply.

Hi Guys,
Same story with a bit of a twist: 26 year old Indian male, studied my bachelors degree in SMU and working in Singapore for close to 2 years now after getting my PR, which was in April 2009 - you guys reckon I should wait till I complete 2 years or should apply now? (considering the fact that I have been here for 6 years). I work in Financial services and make 40 grand a year in case you need to know that..
All replies will definitely be appreciated!! On the same note, could anybody guide me to some source other than this forum to get some advice and information on this topic??
Cheers!!

If you feel certain you want to be a citizen here than I would advise you to apply now, why wait 2 years. You seem like you have stable employment and good solid income at the moment, that could change in 2 years, may as well apply when your holding all the aces in your hand.

I'd wait. I reckon 40k a year is marginal for approval and there may (speculating here) be a fixed term before you can reapply. See if you get a decent rise at the end of the year. Unless you are having kids soon and need the baby bonus or buy new hdb what else needs you to apply now?

We received a letter around 2 years after getting our PR inviting us to apply for citizenship. Maybe hold off for a few more months and see if the same happens? If invitation doesn't turn up by then, apply anyway.

My wife applied for SC few months back and i didn't apply with her because it was less than a year after i got my pr. The interview officer was asking my wife couple of time to tell me to apply for SC when it is one year, so i did. some you have noticed , since the eligibility tool doesn't exist any more, if you want to apply citizenship online it checks you eligibility automatically, most probably it just checks if your pr approval date is more than a year or not ...
