My partner and I of several years moved to South Africa from Australia four years ago after he was offered a job transfer.  South Africa recognises same sex partnerships and I was able to easily attain a Permanent Partner VISA, based on his.  The catch was that the VISA didn't include an option to study or seek employment.  This was fine because before moving and leaving my full time engineering job, I started my own web based development business and have been working from home for an Australian company.

Once again, my partner needs to make a transfer because of his job.  The next stop is Singapore- which finds us in the opposite situation.  I will need to apply for a working VISA and immigrate on my own accord.  Although I don't mind working full time in Singapore in my profession, I do need to think about letting go some of the business I've accrued over the years.  Nevertheless, it is just a bit of added stress and uncertainty another big move like this could do without!

Are there any partners of gay expats here who are willing to share their experiences in finding a job in Singapore?  Are there any groups or organisations that help with these situations and assist in making the transition smoother?

Thank you.

You could try applying for a dependents pass with your partner's firm as 'guarantor'.  Just as someone had to be the first non-married 'straight' person to receive such a pass (visa)...albeit engaged probably.

Being gay in Singapore is a crime. I would suggest you keep that quiet?

Being gay is not a crime in Singapore. Certain types of gay sex are illegal, but the law is rarely, if ever, applied.

There was a high profile case where an expert academic in earthquake research came to live in Singapore and brought his partner with him.

So, it's not unprecedented.

Well may I then suggest that one must not get intoxicated with alcohol when surrounded by gays? You will never know..
