I have been to it many times already and I have to say, its impressive. It will pull the crowds from all over.  This is a luxury destination for the wealthy now.  It aimed to be a millionaires playground and the monaco of asia.  It certainly looks like its heading that way fast. Things are just booming here and dont show any sign of slowdown either. Got to take my hat of to Singapore, they have really shown the rest of the world up.

So thats your idea of achievement and success, that the
wealthy and the millionaires flock here and we slave and
serve them and live of the crumbs they throw at you. And
we will be all the more "richer" associating with them.
Nothing matters so long as they leave their crumbs behind
and our guys get their food and go back to our HDBs to serve
them another day. Turn this into a Monaco and trade your
dignity and soul! You don't worry for your children, your kith
and kin, your friends. Or are you so wrapped up in your pigmy
mind and the heavy veils covering your eyes has led you to
loose sight of what is good and what is bad. Or you simply
don't care.
for you.

The Marina Bay area is much more impressive physically than the Sydney or Melbourne equivalents of Darling Harbour and Crown Casino. The Australian versions are a poor cousin, probably around 1-2 stars in rating. I do not go to casinos, just talking about the general area.
A very poor Japanese meal at Crown foodcourt cost me A$12.70, just unfrozen seafood thrown together with horrible soup and unfrozen udon.

Oh give over man..

I have to admit, the whole marina bay has got to be probably the most impressive skylines in the world.  Indeed it puts sydney and its luna park in the shade somewhat.

Read in The Edge that if Genting's 350million per quarter profits and & 1 million a month visitors are sutained, the Singapore casino market will be the second biggest in the world (based on just 2 casinos).

All that glitters is not gold. Think long term. In big countries
the gambling houses are located at remote locations for the
incorrigibles. In our tiny city state we now have two casinos
right at our doorstep and now dangerously close. The extra
revenue could have been earned via other means with the
excellent base we have here. But somehow we are blinded
into getting quick returns and have exposed our guys who
work there to the easy ways and habits and behaviours of
of gamblers. There will be repercussions and side effects and
your guess is as good as mine where this will take us in the
long run. We are trading our dignity and soul and values.
One glaring recent report about tne serious threat being directed
at the law convention organizer shows who we are dealing
with and hopefully it is being investigated by our no-nonsense
authorities. Otherwise we loose credibility. If we lose our
strong leaders, what guarantees do we have that a new set of
leaders could at least preserve the order and
sanity as we like it to be or will the floodgate be wide open
to the lifestyles of the rich and what then. The lights and
glitter that we see now may then become meaningless
when we see wholesome values go down the drain, endless
problems cropping up one after and another and all that
we hold dear and cherish dissapear..........

certainly is not the measurement of good governance.

"...V based upon your previous threads it would seem that you have a high regard for ethics and morality and doing the "right" thing regardless of law. If the casinos met yur investment criteria as stated above, or exceeded them, would you invest in the business or let your funds be invested in the business?..."

Certain industries are better (self) regulated than others.  Examples of these are the porn and gaming industries.  Other industries (FINANCIAL SERVICES for example) could care less about how their activities impact the rest of society and justify their actions by the 'bottom line' argument, all else be damned.

I personally don't and will not invest in the gaming industry.

Yes what is the development. It seems there was a threat to
make somebody dissapear into thin air if he does not back off.
Have the authority got hold of the thug?

I have been to KL, HK, beijing, Bangkok, Sydney etc and the Marina Bay skyline is a sight to behold.  In here, we have the best of everything and are the number one city in the world now. Everything else is just a poor imitation of us.  We are a world class destination and will always be the business hub of asia because of our location. This is Singapore remember. Why do you think all the rich people from Indonesia, China and India want to come here ?  Its because its the best place in tne world.  Thats why.

Nothing positive is ever associated with a
casino business. No elaboration required.
Time will tell.
[/quote]   He was arguing that it was a poor investment by the casinos and they would not make money.  I'm asking what is different here that would make him correct as there is no apparent truth in it.

Your point may be true but has no connection to mine.
