Hi guys

I need to get a new backpack for travel purposes. I have a 75L pack which I have always used for trips of several months. But, alas, I'm getting older - and the trips I'm on these days are more like 2-3 weeks. I want a 35-40L pack of good quality (Fjallraven, Macpac, Kathmandu, Low Alpine - a good brand). The thing is, there doesn't seem to be any decent outdoor activity shops here. These Singaporeans like the indoors.

I have had 'Sport Connection' recommended to me. I read it was in Funan Centre, so I went - but it's not there. They said it was in the Peninsula Plaza, so I went - but it's not there either. Neither is it in Plaza Singapura. Is there still a branch in Geylang?

Or is there another decent seller? Perhaps I'll just go to the North Face store.

Thanks for any help.
S.

here seem to be rather expensive.

Try Googling Adventure Gear Post, they have a small shophouse selling Lowe on the East Coast.

Alternatively, there's the Traveller Store in the Paragon (think they have outlets elsewhere, Marina?) this chain sells Deuter and North Face from memory.

Other than that, how about getting one online? If like me you're British there's plenty of choice at home... Amazon, Field & Trek, Tiso, Cotswold Outdoor etc. better prices but you'd need to ship it to a UK address in some cases and then get it passed on somehow.

Thanks for the tips. I'll check them out.

I do live permanently in London but I'm out here for 6 months. I'm off travelling for a few weeks next Thursday so don't really have time. I looked a few weeks ago online in the UK and stupidly ummed-and-ahhed and didn't buy the pack I wanted.

yes Planet Traveller have a store in Paragon (I think it's level 4) and one in Marina Square (level 2, but Marina is a bit of a confusing mall so take some Kendal Mint Cake for sustenance if you go there in case you get lost!).

The Velocity mall at Novena is supposed to be good for outdoor gear, but I can't swear by it as I've only been there once - there did seem to be quite a few hiking boot stores though - perhaps they have a website where you can check before going down there.

checked the Velocity (The Dedicated Sports Mall) website at Novena. They seem to have several sports related stores, including one called Outdoor life at #02-60/67.

Good luck...

Novena - lots of dedicated outdoor stores with all the brands you have mentioned.  I have bought very good hiking boots there plus clothing for cold weather hiking (Northern India).  They seem to cover everything unless you are a professional - then I don't know.

Try Adventure 21 at Chinatown Point or Campers Corner on Stamford Road.

Or you could try Golden Mile Hawker Centre (opposite Golden Mile Complex)...on the top level there are loads of camping equipment places.

There is definitely a Sports Connection at Shaw Tower on Beach Road.

Really, there are loads and loads of options.

You can get a good backpack even around the hdb shops.  They are very common here as many singaporeans carry them
