A guy who worked in Saudi Arabia, who now works in the same place as a friend of mine in SG, said Saudis call Indians "donkeys". WHat sort of people live in SA???

Anyway, getting back to what Maids have to do- I pity the young ones who are in their early 20's, but have to accompany the arthritic aunties. Sure, the elderly need help, and it's a legit task, but I wouldn't choose to be inthat situation 24/7. It's very tedious to walk at 1/4 pace, to take 30 minutes to walk a short distance, every day.

The number of expat husbands having affairs with their maids
would shock most expat wives.

I think i recently read at least 45% of expat husbands have had at least sex with a maid at least once.

Shows you that expat women aren't doing they're job or useless at it Wink

How do you have "at least sex"? Or are you describing your own technique?

I think I recently read that at least 67% of local teenage boys lose their virginity to maids, and at least 82% local teenage girls lose these to foreigner construction workers.

Another Kubic blooper. Just like your predictions about the Singapore economy, the casino and your other incredible claims.

Maids do a job (mostly badly) that they are paid for (mostly poorly, but that reflects their inability to perform the tasks well enough to receive higher compensation). Fair exchange. You don't like it? Fine. Don't employ one.

Seeing a whole family out food shopping at Giant, including teenage boys and some tiny little Indonesian maid groaning under the weight of pushing a filled to the brim trolley while the family just looks on.

Honestly, Singapore needs to get its people to stop being so insipid, grow balls and do somethings themselves.

I actually agree. I've lived in Asia for 12 years and for most of the time I had p/t help which was great. I've had 4 maids in 2 and a half years (albeit 2 maids in one year, then a 4 year gar and now 2 in 1.5 years) and you know what, it's not worth it. On one hand I like that we can spontaneously go out, but then we only do that once or twice a month. I like that we have ironed clothes and a clean house, however a p/timer could do that. However I do think that I end up going over a lot of the things she's done because she mainly does them with her mind on another planet. I don't think I am going to have another maid. Frankly I'd give up a bit of cleanliness for more privacy and not having to micromanage someone who needs more attention and watching than my 1-year old.

This is our 3rd time in Singapore.  Never had a maid and never will have one.  Thank god I don't have to have sleepless night over thinking about the past and what a maid could have done to our kids when they were little.  I was always there, saw my kids grow, used reliable babysitters occationally but even then I always put the kids to bed first before leaving them.

That makes me laugh - why don't they stay at home, put their feet up and send her out to do the shopping........isn't that the whole point of having a maid?

And then I see expats doing it too - the ma'am will have the kids in the pram (often crying because they're fed up or hungry) and the maid is doing the shopping (or vice versa) and everyone looks a bit stressed.  Why not either leave her at home with the kids and the ma'am goes shopping or ma'am stays at home with the kids while the maid does it all.  They can't all be new maids being shown what products to buy as I've see them more than once in my local supermarket.  Again, it seems pointless having a maid if you're all going to go out and do stuff like that.

This is the only place I've ever regularly run across people or groups of people wandering through the supermarket just browsing  Roll Eyes Seriously, it's an odd phenomenon, so it never surprises me to see the entire family - granny included - out doing the weekly shop  Cheesy

And an answer to the question of why don't these people just have the maid do the shopping and stay home is many, many local families NEVER leave their maids at home alone - no trust whatsoever.
