Hi guys,

I got a very strange offer from a so called listed Singaporean company.

The contract says that I will be bonded into 2 years and if I leave the company without fulfill the whole period I would have to pay back the amount equivalent to the balance of the remaining months. And the HR refuses to draw a proper/clear job description, only indicates to whom I shall report. Could there be something undergoing regarding the job description?.

Basically, the 'offer' indicates that the company has the right to assign me any task(cleaning the toilet if they want) and fire me at any time for any reason with 2 months notice prior, yet, the right to 'calculate' compensation due to any of my misconducts. On the other hand, I wont be able to terminate the contract within 2 years no matter what happens.

The position is Assistant IT Manager. The pay is 3000pm without any housing allowance. The pay is ridiculous for that position I know(not to mention my experience, far better than what they expected). But the problem is the termination terms. I doubt its even legal!

Anyway, I intend to walk away from the offer, but would like to hear some opinions from you guys first.

Cheers

run do not walk

I am a regional IT manager with a major MNC - I can tell you our terms are nothing like that.

I would not topuch a local company with a shitty stick - just not worth it and all peasants.

Since you are going to walk away, why do you need opinions?

Yeah, I think so, and some say that a lot of Singaporean companies do the same kind of sh*t like this out there. have been working/traveling around Asia for last 6 years, never seen such a contract. It cant be even more clear that the contract is based on taking advantage of others. And they dont even bother to make it less obvious Grin

Thanks a lot for your opinions  Wink.

Many years ago when I first came to Singapore, I was offered a job with a local IT firm with some kind of 2 yr bond. I walked away

The unclear job description seems to be pretty common here.

Even at at a MNC here people didn't get a job description
or if they got one, it was very vague like "do engineering work".

Since Singapore is very contract based I imagine companies
here take advantage of that. Even my current position has no
real job description so I end up doing multiple roles at
the drop of a hat. I am not bothered by that though.

The 2 year bond though seems unacceptable, especially
since the pay is so low.

As others have said before me, "RUN, don't walk".  Shocking terms, but typical of the way things work here.

what else do you need....
you state that "pay is ridiculous for this position"
and that's what you would work for...

strange that you even bother with opinions of others....

My point is the pay is ridiculous, however, that doesn't prevent me from taking the offer, even its less than what I expected, the termination term does. Strange, we all bother with others' opinions, dont we?! Then why would we come to this forum?
