We want to drive to somewhere in Malaysia for a quick trip next week (so early September) but ideally it will have a kids club.  And on a nice beach would be ideal, although we don't really mind, as long as we can relax and our 4 year old son not get bored!  Any tips gratefully received please as I am not even sure where to start.  Happy to drive for about 5 hours but hopefully not any longer.

Thank you!

Hmmm, OK, not much out there I guess!

Has anyone stayed at Swiss-Garden Resort & Spa, Kuantan, Pahang that can give any tips?  Or what about Cameron Highlands, have been looking at Century Pines Resort?

Thank you.

Desaru seems to be the place for Singaporean families, there are many resorts for golfers, for honeymooners etc and many are family friendly, one comes to mind, lotus I think, that has a pool with slides etc and day trips around to farms and other activities, etc. Very easy drive from Singapore as it's just on the east coast of Johor. Next week is local school hols, so I imagine it will be pretty happening over there.

We stayed at Century Pines in the Cameron Highlands once (about 4 or 5 years ago).  It wasn't a bad hotel but I don't remember a kids club and there's no swimming pool (or at least there wasn't then).  The Cameron Highlands are a bit boring for kids too I discovered, just tea plantations and a few strawberry farms and things.  There was a butterfly farm but that'd only take up a few hours.  It's more interesting for adults who like to go walking as there are some nice walks up there (some of them would be too long for small children).

Desaru's OK but nothing special at all - cheaper than Bintan but you'd probably have a nicer holiday at Bintan and the beaches are much nicer.

Tioman could be an option - at least the beaches there are nice, but you'd have to get to Mersing and go over by boat or fly from Seletar.  Berjaya was the best place to stay when we went (about 7 or 8 years ago) but I think there are a few more nice ones there now and Berjaya is quite expensive from what I remember.  Having been to Malaysia a few times over the years, I am starting to think that Bintan, although a bit pricey, is a much more relaxing place to go for a few days.

driven there a few times
Take North South Highway to Yong Peng and then turn right and head toward Kuantan.
Cherating is a few miles along the coast from Kuantan.
Very easy drive - I think it took just over 5 hrs - and I was not pushing it that hard.
biggest variable is getting across from Singapore into Malaysia
I think we left at about 7:30 am and were in cherating by about 1pm.
I think it is worth the drive - much better than desaru or Port Dickson

+1 for the Club Med at Cherating.

Easy and scenic drive to get there, heaps of activities for children to do(our son virtually disappeared for the 5 nights we were there.!) and choose the right promo and its literally half the price of Club Med Bintan

Can anyone advise the quickest way to get to Cherating?  I see if you get the train up you still have two hours from the nearest station and i can't find any flights from Singapore to the nearest airstrip which is only 45 minutes drive.  Any advice appreciated.
