We just moved into a condo we own and we're renovating and redecorating. Everything is done except the curtains, which are 10 years old and need to go ASAP as they are falling apart and falling off the rack. Where does one get custom made curtains? OR decent off the rack curtains ready to hang that don't look like they came out of a packet? Never having done this before, I also need a bit of design help re fabric, black out blinds, etc. Spotlight do custom made but offer no design service with colours or recommendations; they just make whatever you tell them to make, which is where I'm a bit stuck (what to tell them to make). Not really interested in IKEA as we want something a bit more high end. Any advice/pointers on where we might go for this? Thanks

I'd get a few quotes and compare.

mall over Joo Chat way which is full of curtain fabric shops which make up and fit as well. Is it Joo Chiat complex? Select some fabrics you like and ask them to bring samples to your place to see how they look in situ.

It's worth getting a company who will come and measure up and do everything for you.  We had a guy who our landlord contacted but I can't give you the name I'm afraid as everything, the name and the receipt were all written in Chinese!  But it was very stress-free, he just came and measured, I chose the fabric for each room and a week or so later he was back and hung them all for us.

It can be quite expensive though (we were lucky, the landlord paid) - we went for some of their cheaper fabrics and it was over $1,000 for the living room and 3 bedrooms, but they did a much better job than I could have ever done.

Try the yellow pages website for a start and then google and see if you can get a list together of places to ring and get quotes.

I used New Style Enterprise to make curtains for our house in Perth. $4260 for 26 pairs and tie backs (13 "day" and 13 "night") of large curtains.

No complaints, well made, good service.

Had mine made in Batam.
Measured myself then went over for a day trip to place order.
20 pairs (10 day and 10 night) made and delivered to SG within a week. Guy even put up for us!
Much cheaper than SG even with ferry and visa.....also paid ferry for delivery guy.
Total cost $2500
